Hi all, these pics were taken at Spout Farm Wheelton Chorley of new born lambs mother rejected them. Arlene xx

Gorgeous. Why do the mothers reject some lambs?!

From what I can tell, it's not really known what prompts a ewe to reject a lamb in the first place, but if they have done it once they may do it with subsequent lambs, too. This may prompt a farmer to remove the ewe from his flock (one way or another! :().
Some ewes giving birth to twins or triplets may accept one or more of the lambs and reject the others. Alternatively others are far more accommodating and can even be persuaded to accept an orphan lamb, especially if one of theirs has died and the orphan is carrying the scent of their own lamb.
Did you know that a lamb wiggles its tail as it's feeding to promote the intestines to secrete lactase, which is the enzyme which enables it to digest the lactose in the ewe's milk? And it butts the udder with its hard little head to promote the milk flow.
It's a funny business, nature....
:)

@amgrundy - She is lovely your Granddaughter, was she ok Arlene? Some children get a little bit scared! I love Lambs - but they wouldn't make a good pet indoors:cat:

Hi William, I was surprised I thought she would have been frightened a bit but she was fine with them, going back this Sunday.

This is our parrot Ollie. He is 10yrs old and has a vocabulary of hundreds of wrds.. If the phone rings he will say Hello and start to speak to it. If someone rings the bell he will say come in. He is so funny. If we sing to him he will sway about, and now he has started yapping like the dog.
