Hi I have been newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I still have my one touch vita glucometer from 4.5 years ago when I had gestational diabetes. Wondering if I just change the battery will this meter still be accurate?

Hello,

Your meter may or may not be accurate after all this time. So it would be in your best interest to get your hands on some control solution. As far as I'm aware this is a way for the meter to calibrate itself against a measured quantity which is constant:

If you have any test strips left from 4.5 years ago I'd throw them away as they'll have more than likely expired.

Hope this answers your query :)

Thanks grant. When I got it they said it doesn't need calibrated with solution. The gp has given me new test strips when I told him that. Seems to be right depending on how I'm feeling although once I checked 3 times in a row it was different. I put a new battery in it just not sure of the lifespan of them
