I was wondering what type of diabetes I have as I am on insulin 5times a day and on Metformin and Linagliptin.
My weight is only about 73kg and im 16 years old also doctors have said ita type 2 but its really confusing.

Can diabetes be gone? Is it possible?

Hi,

How long have you been diabetic?

C Peptide test will tell you which type

C Peptide test will tell you which type
No, it won't. A cpeptide test will only tell you if you are making any of your own insulin - a honeymooning type 1 will be producing some of their own insulin. An insulin dependent type 2 will not.

@Nidah there are some diagnostic tests you could ask for:
  • C peptide test to see if you are making insulin
  • Gad test to see if you have antibodies associated with type 1 - if positive you are type 1. However c25% of type 1s are gad negative.
Neither of those tests are definitive. It's important to also consider your clinical presentation. What is your diagnosis story? What is your BMI? What is your blood sugar control like? What are your insulin doses like?

It's fine to ask your doctors to explain why they've decided type 2.

As mentioned above @Nidah I would suggest you book another appointment with your GP and go with a list of questions - I write them down so I don't forget to ask things. Spend some time around the forum reading, and learning, about diabetes then you will feel more in control I think. Don't be afraid to question the Docs, makes notes while there (I never remember what they say unless I do!) then ask anything you want to on the forum to help you.

Welcome to the forums, we are a friendly bunch here - this place has really helped me understand my diabetes.

Best of luck :)

Welcome! Thinking back to when I was 16, I think I would have found it a slightly frightening time... Rest assured which ever type there is real hope...a great life and lots of help and support here.

Check out this forum's various threads and just gain some knowledge over the next few days and then ask away:)

Hello @Nidah .
My advice is to just stick to the forums for now until you get to know the trusted posters (for you).
Dont give out any personal information, especially in a private message.
Like any safety measures you use on-line.

You will love it. There is a section for teens too. To compare parents annoyances etc...

If anytime we start using jargon, keep us right. I'm getting old. Ha ha
Great to see your post. Enjoy!
