Hi I'm hoping that someone might be able to give me some ideas on trainers. I have a stubborn ulcer on my left big toe and have been told by a specialist to get some more suitable footwear, particularly for work. They need to be a lace up or Velcro trainer that aren't too tapered at the toe and not flat (needs room for bandage and insole), needs to be padded and supportive. Also need to be black. Any suggestions are very much appreciated, thanks.

I need orthotics - so I have to have a trainer that can accomodate insoles without shoving my foot out of the ankle support - Oasics/asics - I've been using them for over 6 years - excellent. They have a variety of different widths etc - you should go to a specialist shop and make sure that you have somebody that can help with making sure you have a good fit.

if you live anywhere near a FOOT SOLUTIONS (on the web - I use the one in Richmond, Surrey, UK) they also do shoes and trainers especially for people who have feet problems. Again - excellent fitting service and they can accommodate insoles - been using them since 2010 - never looked back. They should also be able to accommodate on the colour - but they may have something that ticks all the boxes in terms of comfort in an actual shoe - if that will keep the boss happy

Has anyone suggested referring you to the NHS department which does made to measure shoes? I have very broad feet, and hammer toes, and had an ulcer on a toe which I'd had for several months and was refusing to heal. The podiatrist (NHS) referred me to the shoe department (I think it is called orthotics). I was reluctant because of style issues, but went to the appointment. I now have 2 pairs of made to measure, chosen from a wide range of styles and colours. They are not the most elegant shoes I've ever had, but they are very comfortable, and my ulcer healed very quickly.
