My wife's great uncle CSgtMaj William Rawley gave his life on 1 July 1916, the first day of the Somme.

19,240 of these little commemorative mementoes made from Somme brass shell casings and Somme soil mixed with the red enamel represent each fallen British soldier that day!

In the turbulence that now engulfs us within Europe, seeing these expressions of sacrifice for peace and unity against xenophobia, has lifted my sense of hope:)

They've just been on the BBC.
I reckon they will sell out quickly.

I am sure they will.

The British Legion site crashed for 60 mins, so must have been a lot trying to access the site.

I've just been able to purchase one. The site is working now.

Oh great. Got one. Feels special, I shall wear it with pride and hope one of my children will treasure it when I've eventually gone:)

Sold out.
That is twice I have failed to get the memorial poppies - both times due to website overload.

:(

Edited to add: Revisited site and found another pin. Realistic poppy design, not stylised. Also made of Armaments' brass. Very pleased.

Wow that was fast. It looks like I just managed to get one by the skin of my teeth!

They also had some very nice cufflinks that are made exactly the same. They were a little more expensive but have also sadly sold out now.

Yes I saw those too, they looked lovely:)

Glad they've not had a problem, shifting them all....a truly superb idea!
