Same here with the love carbs thing. I called my previous diet the Elvis Presley, I only ever ate foods I liked. So Burgers, Chips, Pizza eat out or takeaways, all washed down with flagons of ale. So to be honest the writing was on the wall for me as well :)

Ha ha...the "Elvis Presley"...I like it....no booze for me, which is a blessing but rice, pasta and bread are my downfall.....but not anymore.....trying to stay positive.

No, I understood....I was just saying that I love tomatoes and eat lots of them so will look at cutting them out and seeing if I see an improvement in my Arthritis, thanks.
Ah... Great. Do you eat peppers, eggplant or potato?

As far as portion control, going low carb higher fat surely minimizes hunger. You have to make sure you have some fat with all meals though, fat satisfies. Maybe you should try chunking up avocado on a salad. I like making chicken, turkey or egg salad with mayo and some onion and putting chunks of avocado on then putting it on a piece of romaine lettuce.
I also smash it with sea salt and garlic powder and a few chopped onions and eat it with celery. Very very satisfying

I didn't know that about tomatoes. I eat tons of them, and have them every day for lunch, and also many of my evening meals. I had arthritis in my knee. All symptoms totally gone since going low carb/high fat. Sadly it hasn't done anything to repair the damaged cartilage in my other knee! ;)
It might have been something in another food you gave up to go LC like grains. They are notorious as well as dairy to cause inflammation. Glad yours is gone!

Still eating the dairy but not the grains.
I'm glad it's gone, too. :)

Occasionally peppers, not too many and rarely potatoes so no problem limiting those.

Jeff - I 'was' exactly the same as you which is why I am now where I am - and still sooooooo bloody angry with myself for allowing it to happen!

P.S. Before I get the flak, l know there are many out there where they are not to blame for the lifestyle they had.

Shelly,
See what I mean .... Tomatoes good ..... Tomatoes bad, and this is only the beginning.

Again what is best for YOU is what you need to work out, and it is you that has to live your life with this - whatever path you choose!

Yeah Heretic1, I sometimes wish I had made some different life choices, but I was too wrapped up in it all, and even if someone pulled me to one side a year before and told me it would happen I would have probably laughed at them and ordered another Beer.

Once you get everything into place it's crazy how you find life is actually more fun with a bit of moderation.
For instance I never wake up on a Sunday at 11am nursing a hangover.
I'm up most days by 6:30 am. Breakfast and out doing something by 8am.

Jeff - I think I may well have probably done the same - if I'm honest with myself! I went for a 'well man assessment' and expected to be told 'you need to lose a bit of weight and your BP is a bit high' - again, yeah, yeah, yeah!!!!! Nothing, but nothing prepared me for what I was told!
I have told very few people of my 'illness' (and have no inclination to do so) but on recent weekend away sat watching my brother (who is currently same size and weight I WAS) quaff several pints of Cider, plus a lot of wine, then eat loads of Pizza plus a Chinese meal. I realised that he needed to know just how at risk he is genetically, and lifestyle , weight etc and what has now happened to me. I would never have forgiven myself if I thought I could have helped prevent it happening to him and said nothing - I was in bits telling him, it really upset me.
I think he has got the message now - he's started behaving sensibly already and lost a bit of weight (though he has yo yo'd before). I think it has scared the s**t out of him. Maybe he has got the second chance I never did, and maybe confronted with what he was, just maybe - I might just have taken it on board ...I will ever know now!

P.S I used to wake up on a Sunday having had 5-6 tins of Stella, and probably a few glasses of Port, and I never had a hangover ..... Worrying really now when I look back!

Well done for telling you brother. Both my parents have type 2 diagnosed at 60+.
So you would have thought I would of known better, but when your in your late 20's you couldn't careless.
5 to 6 cans of Stella would be about right for me, but JD and Coke as a spirit. With a couple of cannabis cigarettes, delivered to your door Pizza/Indian, bags of crisps, and half a large bar of chocolate.
That would be a regular Saturday night. From about the age of 25 till 40.
Not to mention at least one evening every week out in London Socialising with friends and colleagues in my work. That would be a good 5 to 6 pint evening and a Burger king/McDonalds on the way home.

Yeah our life choices literally mirrored one another, and now we're both on here :)
I enjoyed it while it lasted. Now at 44, and with a much clearer mind, like you, I wish I could have seen the light sooner.

Jeff, there is a part of me that likes the 'new me' - albeit not the reason why I've had to do it. I'm in far better shape physically (if not mentally or emotionally) than I have been for years, and loving being more active, cycling, running, walking, Spinning, etc . It is however frustrating. Sooo many people tell me I now look sooo well and fit and healthy etc - when actually I have never been as 'Ill' in my entire life! I now have a wardrobe that no longer fits me - and clothes literally hang off me, but sadly can't really afford to replace much at the minute. I hate being 'harnessed' to the new revised diet completely and that this is for life! and sooooo missing (on occasion) my 'old life' and ways. I'm sure before too long I will possibly pay my old life just a brief visit - though I know 5-6 Stella's would now floor me. I had a couple of beers over a week ago (my first alcohol for 3 months), and felt quite p******d - and I could drink most under the table previously! I guess I'm also a cheap date now - lol!
