Hello All

I am recently (February) diagnosed. Since then I have made great strides in both weight and blood control (18st 7 to 14 st 5 and hBA1c from 69 to 39), mainly through diet and exercise. I take 1 Metformin tablet morning and night.

Since getting back into the exercise regime i have found my self with a new lease of life and have got back into both running and triathlon and have competed upto 10k and sprint tri distance events already.

This has led me to set a couple of targets for 2018. namely the Paris Marathon and Ironman Kalmar.

I have a fairly strong background in both disciplines and know (knew) how to manage fuelling throughout longer distance events. I had a very settled routine in terms of what gels i needed (Power Bar), when and what drinks worked for me (SIS Go 8%).

Now I am unsure as to the best way to approach nutrition on the bike in particular and less so the run.

What advice would you put my way in terms of what to consider and how to approach developing a nutrition regime?

Thanks

At the moment upto about 30 miles. I aim to do to 100 milers by End of September 17 as an interim milestoneto Kalmar.
when you are so fit as you are , maybe you should just follow the advice and eat/drink what all other ahtletes do for that day only, that is if you do not feel sick from it...

after all you are burning most of the carbs right after you have eaten them...

try it off a few times long before when maybe biking almost the distance and measure your blood glucose at certain distances to know how your blood Picture looks in such a situation

Maybe have a read on the ketogenic diet for endurance athletes. Chris Froome follows one I believe. No need to up your carbs for performance.
