Hi @tezzas
welcome to the forum :)

as you are recently diagnosed type 2 some of the first and best things you can do to help yourself are to have a look at this link to lowering your carb intake . this can have a great impact upon lowering your blood glucose.

this is one step along with getting exercise that may help.

I am sure some of our lovely type 2's will be along shortly to help guide you .

remember that this is a condition that can be controlled so try not to panic in these early days... all the best !

Hi and welcome @tezzas
Take it gently. My readings were that high to begin with and hopefully with some lifestyle changes yours will come down as well. Positive - you're testing. That is a real help. If you test before a meal and 2 hours after you will be able to see how that meal impacts on your blood sugars. Ideally you want the rise to be less than 2 but start with just seeing how much you go up. It's the carbs that raise blood sugars, like bread, potato, rice, pasta etc. We are all different so testing will help you work out what is OK for you and what is either better avoided or smaller portions.
Daisy's post will give you lots of information. Also there will be links to a low carb program which you might find helpful.
Exercise is also helpful, just walking is all I do.
Do come back with questions and we will try and help. It does take time - for me it was about 4 months to get some control.
