Raised blood sugars on low carb

I hope to get some advice because I am at my wits end.

Been a type 2 since 1998 with PCOS, obsese but tried to stick to a low GI diet with exercise.

My blood sugars were worsening and my BP was increasing so I started low carbing. No bread, pasta, rice or potatoes. Stuck to meat, fish and low carb veggies and increased my exercise to 5 times a week.

Just got my HB1c results yesterday and was shocked. Blood levels higher to 71. Blood pressure through the roof and I have put on 3kgs.

I just don't know where to turn. I am on metformin and the nurse is talking about putting me on more medication

I understand about portion sizes, don't cheat and have stopped sugar all together - gutted.

Anyone have any advice? I did quite well on a low GI diet.

Hi Crystal, Are you doing any regular blood testing yourself to check what is happening day to day. Steve

Steve - not at the moment. But I feel I should.
Was persuaded by the diabetic nurse that I didn't need to. Clearly that is wrong.

Blood monitor ordered.
Yes information is power, the rest of the T2 LC community will then be well placed to give you help.

I had a similar problem. I managed to gain exactly 2st between March and November of this year while on a strict low carb diet and that was with blood testing and keeping my BS at a good level - just with not weighing my portions. I think there are a few of us that find that keeping to low carb isn't enough and that we have to count calories as well. :(
