I am new on here I've been type2 for 16 yrs. I've never ever had thrush until 6 months ago when I was prescribed Tresiba it's so painful that I can't even sit down without crying. Has anyone else experienced this or have any idea what to do. MY blood readings are between 4.8 and 5.6 and are well controlled.

Looking here: http://www.rxlist.com/tresiba-side-effects-drug-center.htm , I note itching and rash on the list of potential side effects, but not specifically thrush (although that can itch and have an associated rash where you have the thrush).

I think it's probably time to see your GP to see if he can give you something for the thrush. If you've already done that, then if he's not able to help, it might be time to ask to speak with someone who might be more specialised.

Alternatively, maybe whomever you see for your diabetes could consider you having a trial of a different insulin, as you seem to feel the change to Tresiba and thrush happened about the same time.

Having had a couple of times, over the years, you have my sympathy. Mine was never anything like yours, but uncomfortable nonetheless.

Good luck with it all.

Have you had your thrush confirmed fully by your Dr .. the other half had thrush like symptoms and it turned out to be part of a rapeseed oil allergy.
Could get the other half to PM you if you wanted to swap notes

Thankyou saw gp yesterday seeing consultant Tuesday but when I spoke to diabetic nurse today she said it was impossible I have to say that nothing else in my life has changed so it has to be. The thrush is Infected in genital and buttocks area.

I'd see the Consultant and hear what he has to say. If he is also dismissive, then explain again and if that doesn't work ask where you go next.

I'm sort of working on the assumption you and/or your GP have tried all the usual, Canestan, sort of remedies?

Have you changed washing powder, shower gel, detergent or softener? As Enclave suggests, sometimes the oddest thing bites back.

In the meantime, in your shoes, I'd be in cotton undies, and washing down under with either disposable cloths, or only use the flannel/sponge (whatever) once, before thoroughly laundering it, to minimise the potential for reinfecting yourself.

I have had it on and off since age 10. I now think it is due to high blood sugars. If I am not low carbing an keeping my blood sugar low I will inevitably get it. However, you say your BS is well controlled, so maybe you are unlucky and have picked it up from being too hot, or other changes in health.

I find Canestan cream, the 2% one, relieves it quickly, but I've never found their tablets effective. Instead I take the Diflucan tablets.

Hazel, are you "of a certain age"? Some women find things, down under, can go a bit awry as their hormones go walk-about.

Hello, I am type 1 but feel that this has nothing to do with your current medication. 2 years ago after an early menopause at age 43, I started to have the same symptoms as yours and was misdiagnosed for nearly a year with thrush. After several visits to the doctor, I was eventually referred to a gynecologist and after a biopsy was diagnosed with an immune disorder called "lichen sclerosus". I urge you to ask for a referral as this condition is linked to diabetes and if left untreated can be very problematic . I urge you to please look at the symptoms on the internet and see if you have any similar signs. Good luck with getting this sorted, whatever it may be, be persistent with your doctor, you shouldn't have to live like this.

I had thrush for 2 and a half years which started in pregnancy with mainly stable bgs. I noticed once I hit the 7-8mmol/l mark it was at its worse. Higher bgs may have triggered it. I used all kinds.
Intensitive duo treatment from gp for 6mth got rid of it, with lower bgs.
I still use canestan wash from boots everyday but since taking a diuretic it has never reared its head.

I am very interested to read of your experience. I have been a type 1 diabetic for 44 years. I was recently changed on to tresiba and since then have had what has been diagnosed as thrush but which failed to respond to canasten HC1 and latterly dermovate. I have just been to the GUM (for sexually transmitted diseases) clinic since no-one seemed to be able to get any nearer to a diagnosis and fully effective treatment. The Dr there thinks it may be Lichen Sclerosus and recommends seeing a dermolologist. I think you should also look further into what is causing your extreme discomfort. Tresisba is a 'new' insulin and there is very little research into/knowledge of, side effects. I should add that I knew that I couldn't have a sexually transmitted disease and that Lichen Sclerosus isn't an STD. I am going to see my GP next week and will ask for an appropriate referral. I will also report back to my Dr at the Diabetic clinic when I see her. I do hope that you soon find something to help. Best wishes

I have issues with fungal infections of the feet and ears and in the groin and surrounding area. This is something that has cropped up over a time frame that coincides with higher blood sugar readings though am not certain.

I use Daktacort and it works. Available over the counter at any pharmacy in the U.K. at least.

Two months After I was changed to tresiba I discovered I had developed lichen sclerosis. I have now gone back to my previous insulin and my symptoms have almost gone.

Hi, I agree with the folk above that if your glucose levels are controlled, it is unlikely to be the Tresiba.
Tresiba is new but it has been in use for 5 years now (I think), and it is mainly human insulin with a side chain added to make it slow release. So no reason to believe would cause thrush and no reports of this. But sometimes there are rare. difficult to explain side effects that turn up.
Other drugs such as SGLT-2 inhibitors such as dapagliflozinm empagiflozin and canagliflozin, and antibiotics also cause thrush.
If the creams don't work, oral fluconazole is often effective, as @RosieLKH stated, but one should be aware that it interacts with many statins.
Hope it gets fixed soon
Best wishes
