A problem I have had for a long time is about meter reading. When I take a reading and I get a good result say 5.2 what would be really useful to know is "Am I on the way to 3.2 or 8.2?" I could take a reading 10 minutes later, which I have done but is there a less expensive way that won't chew up my finger tips totally?

Not sure about less expensive but a freestyle libre might help...

A good indication is look at how much active insulin you have on board, if your 5.2 and your bolus dose hasn't peaked then there's a good chance it will drop further, if it's a few hours since you last bolused ( and your basal dose is right and your previous meal wasn't high in fat) then it shouldn't move that much.
