So had a follow up with the doctor today - she wanted to see me before ordering more blood tests (I'm booked in for the HbA1C - among other things - tomorrow morning).

Took my meter along to show her how my blood sugar levels have come down and she was very impressed - hopefully that will show up in the bloods (unfortunately won't get the results until 9 March).

She did mention Metformin again and was also talking about statins, but agreed to wait until the results are in. I've said I won't take statins and I'll also be pushing back on Metformin as I'm not keen on taking medication unless it's absolutely necessary.

Why have you to wait till 9 March? Before my test results were put on-line I always had mine within 2 days of the test. I rang and asked for a print out, and was given one. No hassle. Failing a print out, the receptionist would give me the numbers I asked for. (HbA1c, cholesterol, lipids)

Are you in England?

Yes, I'm in England. My surgery doesn't offer online medical records yet. The blood tests take 5 working days to reach the surgery and the doctor I am seeing only works part time, so just a timing issue. A bit annoying but doesn't seem to be a way around it. I can try calling to ask, but the receptionists don't usually give the results until you've talked to the doctor...

that is insane. In Cardiff and vale NHS blood test results are back with the surgery by the morning after the day the blood was drawn. Patients are sent from the GP to local hospital, blood is drawn, you call next morning for results.

If you were diagnosed in December, is it not maybe just a little early for another HbA1c.

I know it doesn't seem like a very exact science, I have read the following from several sources "The test is limited to a three-month average because the lifespan of a red blood cell is four months (120 days)."

Hopefully your sterling effort to get BG down will be somewhat shown in the result.

I had a very iffy HbA1c in December which I'm currently trying to resolve, but my GP has said have another HbA1c at the end of March.

BTW, if you're interested, and don't mind spending some of your hard earned cash (meant in a nice way), there's something called A1CNow so that you can do your own HbA1c. I'm going to get one of these tests to coincide with my NHS GP test to compare it's accuracy.

Hi @DavidGrahamJones thanks for your reply. Although I was diagnosed in December, the original HbA1C was in November- there was other stuff going on health wise, so the GP was reluctant to diagnose straight away and ran some more bloods in December (including fasting blood sugar) and confirmed then. Didn't go very low carb until January, but hoping the results will reflect my efforts - in addition to the sugar levels going down, I've also lost about a stone.
