BERTIE has bee mentioned on the forum before but I thought some of the peeps on here may be interested in hearing more. I was diagnosed Type 1 in 2014 so still a newbie. I was put on a great course during the first year - Living with diabetes. Four 2 hour classes over a year so one every three months. After that I was told I should attend their BERTIE course at some point. I only got round to it recently and have now been to 2 of the 4 classes. Luckily for me I live near Bournemouth and have known all the team since diagnosis. My classmates vary in the length of their membership of the sugar club. One 50 years of service, 2 of them 35 years, one 20, one 16 and another 9. I know after just the first 2 classes that every single one of them will benefit hugely from this course. Already much happier, they are all already carb counting but somewhere along the line I think they missed out on the great care and advice I was given. Several of them have had problems with their GP surgeries etc. The BERTIE team have offered sympathy, advice and perhaps more importantly are giving them back control of their health. New meters, carbs and cals and diplomatic letters to doctors are everywhere! Faces are clearing of worry and laughter and relief fill the room. For me it's a refresher course and fine tuning of what I was taught in the beginning. I feel so lucky to be under the care of Bournemouth. They are fabulous people. I heartily recommend this course to anyone who is or wants to carb count!
