I can say for sure it's not an ultrasonic thing, the dog is just untrained, doesn't get exercise and has massive separation anxiety, and as far as I know, when the husband leaves for work at 6, the dog is locked in a room alone so it has started to howl even when the wife and kids are home. What baffles me is why it took her 30 minutes to shush him when she KNOWS how it impacts us. This is not the kind of sound that can be drowned out. I have noise cancelling headphones and I can still hear it because it's so loud. The only solution for them is to get rid of the dog. They claim they can't afford to train it.. well, simples, don't get a large dog in a small flat that disturbs other people when you can't provide what the dog needs to be happy.
If I was working "normal" hours, it would be less of a problem, but I work evening shifts, so my sleep hours are early morning - afternoon. I also sometimes have to travel 1-4 hours just to get to work, so even with a 1AM finish, that is a late bedtime by the time I get in, eat dinner, take off makeup etc. That still doesn't change the pathological inability to have a lay in on your day off, though. It disturbs my boyfriend and parents, but for me it's a thousand times worse because of my sleeping schedule. And while I do not expect the entire neighbourhood to be silent during the day (normal daytime noise doesn't bother me at all, I can sleep through D.I.Y LOL), it is unacceptable to have to live under a dog that makes sounds like that. We have other dogs in the block that bark, but it's what I consider normal dog noise/background noise that isn't a nuisance in the slightest.
I just can't believe her attitude. I don't care what her FB friends think, but she is from a rough area and this is a small town and it doesn't take much for someone from the wrong side of the tracks to find out who you are and put a brick through your window!
