When people who know nothing about the LCHF diet tell me I'm killing myself being on it. I was killing myself not being on it!
My readings are always high in the morning in the 10's. I woke up at 3.30am this morning and tested and was 8.6 I went back to sleep and then at 7.30 I was 9.7 Before I went to bed I had some brie and brazil nuts, plus 50ml (espresso size ish) of fresh coffee and cream.

Morning readings over the last few days:
27th Feb 06.33 hrs 10.2
28th Feb 03.52 hrs 10.5 09.07hrs 10.7
1st Mar 07.40 hrs 10.6
2nd Mar 03.25 hrs 8.6 07.30 hrs 9.7

I don't want to start eating in the middle of the night as some days I finish work at 10pm (tonight) and then start at 8am in the morning (tomorrow) and will be up at 6.30am. Some mornings I start work at 7am, so will be up at 5.30am So if I'm eating in the middle of the night I will be really tired for work, so want to avoid night time snacks.

My day time readings are going down, I've been down to low 8's, 7's and these past days I've managed 6's :) I'm exercising more and have been strict with my LCHF diet again. But its the dump that gets me.

So anything you can come up with that I can eat when going to bed will be wonderful. I must get off to bed now as I only have 6 hrs and my alarm clock will be calling me to get up!

I have the exact same problem with similar morning readings. I look forward to reading member's thoughts on how to control these highs.

There are a number of threads on the forum about dawn phenomenon with lots of different suggestions.

The fasting level can be the last one to fall into line, even after quite a long time on LCHF. Mine didn't really become normal until I started incorporating some intermittent fasting into my eating regime.

Might be worthwhile logging your carbs and protein if you aren't already, at least until you're sure you're not overdoing either one. I think some of the people who use the Libre find correlations between the amount of carbs and/or protein and variations in fasting levels the day after.

I found that not having dinner for 2 days in a row or having very light/early dinner helps with lowering the fasting glucose level.

Interesting! My fasting routine seems to differ from most people's because I eat breakfast and my main meal as a late lunch. Sometimes have a snack late afternoon/early evening, but not always. Your experience seems similar to what has happened to me since starting this regime. I think there's a lot of wisdom in the old saying about breakfasting like a king, etc.

Yes that old saying proves to be invaluable for us T2D.

I have been trying to fast for the past week with good results. Trying because I still eat small amount of food. Handful of nuts and some cheese.
That managed to bring my fasting glucose down from 6.0 mmol to just around 5.0 mmol. Next the trick is to maintain it at this level...

If I think I need it I'll have a small handful of walnuts with my morning cuppa, before getting up to face the world.

Oh and @berylc - your avatar photo makes me smile!

on rare occations a little morning bitter or whisky in ones coffee can block the liver ...but used on a daily basis then it will maybe stop working as the liver will addapt to be ready for the expected morning shower of alcohol... but used once a week ...
and also a happy start of a day for an old body with arthritis and alike... no go if one has liver problems or any alcoholic tendenses..

some ftty cheese or walnuts or brazil nuts ... like 3-6 of them

Haha. On the odd day that insulin acts like water I have been known to have a small glass of wine with lunch but I never thought of bf!!! That's my worst time for rising. Not sure I could get myself ready and out the door haha

@nomoredonuts Thank you very much :)
The avatar boys are my 3 grandsons. The baby was always standing like that, so the bigger 2 joined him. I will have to get an up to date one done they are now aged 9 yrs, 7 yrs (on the 4th, tomorrow) and 5 in May.

I've had a stir-fry for breakfast. I like to jumble up all the conventional rules, especially when they work!
A meal out is fun too.
