Please understand that use of folic acid instead of methyl folate, if you have the common mutation, could make utilization of folates by your body harder
Yes, but it's only theoretical that methylfolate specifically is needed. Research into actual supplementation shows that the elevated risk associated with those mutations disappears with normal supplementation using regular old folic acid.

As Azure has said, this is going off topic. As I have already said, I'm happy to take the folic acid as do MANY other women. Thank you.

I'm pretty sure endocrinologists and GPs wouldn't be handing out incorrect forms willy nilly if it was harmful to mother or baby!

MelissaC you are sounding in good form Hun hope everything is going ok for you! Any updates on an a1c?

Mine is 6.8% I've never had it so good! Keep wanting to do better though! Had my eyes screened yesterday and still have background retinopathy that hasn't progressed so far in pregnancy hopefully it doesn't either!!

@wannabemammy My last a1c in January was 61 (or 7.7%) which obviously isn't good enough yet. I'm planning to have another a1c test in April so will just have to keep my fingers crossed that it's come down again. I'm not expecting it to come down loads, but just hope it is better! If it goes up then I'm gonna be so upset!

Wow I'd LOVE to have mine at 6.8%!! Well done you! How many weeks are you now? x

For some reason I get a message saying I am not allowed to reply to posts in the app... anyone else have that problem?

I haven't had an HbA1c since October/November... apparently I am not due to have one for another 2 months. When I asked they said that's right, just seems like a long time between... maybe I am just over worrying! Just used to pre-preg and having constant checks!

@wannabemammy I had my eyes screened a couple of weeks ago and still just background (was 19 weeks at that point). Quite relieved nothing has got worse. Fingers crossed it's the same for you!

@Jodieanne I can't say I remember specific high readings or anything around that time... but I don't have a very good memory! Fingers crossed for you, let us know if you have been successful or not

Xx

@Pilzy-89 I don't actually have the app, so can't say I'm afraid. I must download it though!

Yeah I expect you're just so use to having more hba1c checks pre-preg. I'm sure everything is fine though :) x

I got the same message @Pilzy-89 only managed to log in now! My first trimester retinopathy check results showed I still have background retinopathy which I was happy about, my second trimester appointment is in 4 weeks, hopefully it hasn't changed!! I am now 14+2 and seem to be doing the best this week so far out of all my time being pregnant! According to my Libre my a1c should be sitting at 6.5% which I am happy about as I always seem to have insulin resistance even when not pregnant! I'm attending the maternity 100km away every 2 weeks which so far isn't too bad but I reckon by my due date I'll be so ready to have the baby!!

Mine seems to be working again now so can reply in the app rather than going online, probably just an update thing!
That's good, glad it's still background, as long as it has not progressed, then like you, I was happy. Still back ground for me 6 months in.
I am still having hypos a lot and am 24+5. Don't really understand my body at the moment. A couple of nights ago I went to bed at 6.9, 2am was 7.4 and at 6am had shot up to 16.2!! That's the highest reading I have had since I have been pregnant a couple of days before had the same overnight readings but woke up at 3.4... go figure!
I was every 2 weeks at hosp but not it's every 3 weeks. Blood pressure was up a little last time so they said 2 weeks but still booked it for 3 weeks :| and have just left it.
I only have 3 months to go now! Can't quite believe it! Painted his nursery at the weekend, just waiting for all his furniture and pram etc. to get here. Went to the baby show at the Excel in London, if you can get to one of them then well worth going, I think the next one is in Birmingham in May. I saved hundreds £ on everything!! And got some adorable bits and bobs xx

I hear you on the crazy number front! I'm 15+1 and super insulin sensitive at the mo! Also still being sick so I'm chucking meals up before they even reach my stomach and going hypo from that! I am unbelievably jealous you are at the 6 month mark lol looking forward to that number myself!! I had a maternity appointment on Wednesday and my a1c was 6.4%! Lowest ever!! My endo was so pleased for me.

I'm based in Ireland so I'll be going to the show in Dublin next weekend. Hoping to get one of those next to me cribs with 20% off or something they are so expensive!!

@Pilzy-89 and @wannabemammy your posts are such an inspiration to me since i'm at 10 weeks and seeing how those are getting on further along keeps me going. Took me 2+ years in the pre-preg clinic and 7 months on the pump to get my HA1C down to under 7% (roughly 50mmol?) so its exciting finally getting there!:)

@hboyt glad it's helping you the first 12 weeks were the worst for me, constantly worrying! Still worrying tbh, I don't think that will ever stop even when he is born well done to you for getting the HbA1c down, it's hard but so worth it. Do you find being on the pump has helped a lot?

I have hit the insulin resistant stage pretty suddenly. One week sugars were lovely and all 5-7 then bam, 9-13 over the weekend and into this week :( am at 27/28 weeks though so not done bad to get there really. Nurses were surprised at the sudden change. Majorly upped my insulin requirements and seems to be bringing them in line most of the time... I know I shouldn't blame myself but I it's so hard not too, I always think I should be doing more.

Well done @wannabemammy :D that's a great hba1c. I had my last HbA1c through, was 40mmol (5.8%) - the best I have had in 16 years! Think all the lows during pregnancy have helped though how are you with the sickness now? Hoping it's started to settle down for you now? I have hit major heartburn stage that makes me sick! Avoided morning sickness and then that lol! Gaviscon is my life saver (doesn't always help but hey ho!).

We have a 4D scan on Saturday. Majorly excited to see little man and get a better idea of his little face

How is everyone getting on? Any updates? xx

Hi ladies just thought I'd say hi to the preggo ladies and good luck to the hopefully sooners :) I am 30+5 weeks with my second child , my first is 7 next month (crazy) lol .. and previously I had 3 early mcs due to awful hba1c general control ...since then it took me 9 months to sort my diabetes get myself in control and conceive (fate maybe) i don't even feel very pregnant lol I doubt I will until the last 4 weeks... anyways I have background retinopathy which is a bit scary am told is from sudden tight control which seems a bit unfair but hey ho that's just life I guess... my insulin requirements have doubled iv found too my night highs would be awful if I didn't correct during night times What does everyone leave their sugars at before bed ? Team have said to leave at 8-9 but I know that's never good for me ! Then I'm too scared to leave at a 4.5 etc I wake up hourly to check ... anyways my little man weighed 2lb 11oz at 28 weeks which is actually below 50th centile I gather ... only slight tho.... had a 4d scan on Friday it was amazing ❤️ Am hoping for induction at 37 weeks which il get confirmed in 2-3 weeks if I can do as I'm moving hospitals hopefully new team just as good as current team
It's so nice to talk to others who just understand
Xxx

Hello I have had background retinopathy for a number of years now, due to lack of control, horrible grip of diabulimia for many years. Was told as long as I control now it shouldn't get worse, they weren't happy when I tightened my control so quickly in pre-preg, but I was eager to be ready for a baby!

I have hit the resistance stage and really really struggling to keep everything under control. I feel awful and keep correcting and upping ratios/basal, keep getting high readings though! It's so frustrating. I had a 4D private scan on Saturday (isn't 4D amazing!!) and she was a little concerned that baby boy is 3.28lbs at 28 weeks. I feel horrible, she said he is heavier than they would expect at this stage and his abdominal circ. is above the 97th percentile I have my NHS 28 week scan at the hospital today so will see what they say then. Everything else looked good at the scan so I don't think I should be too worried... That's what the sonographer said anyway (she was diabetic herself).

At the moment I go to bed at 7-12, correct, test again in the night, correct if necessary and wake up at 5-12, really variable. So rubbish. I am so angry, frustrated and upset at the moment, I don't know what to do, I want to whack in loads of insulin but I don't want to drop it low I have been told to gradually increase settings and leave it two or three days before making more changes, in which time I get high readings. I just worry I am doing more damage than good, I don't want to eat but know I have to so he gets all the nutrients etc he needs.

Hope the hospital move goes well I love having ladies on here who understand the frustrations and worries, and just let me rant at times! Haha

Xx

Can I ask even though it was background did they send you to a consultant eye specialist at the hospital too? I wasn't told I'd need that I had a second screening and this is what iv heard next so am v worried :-( is it just to be safe as I'm pregnant ?.... I'm going to go at 34 weeks and I'm just worried they will say I need surgery or something and il need to have baby too early :-(
I relate to this also! My pre pregnancy I was the worst diabetic for years and years (only good when I was pregnant with my son 7 years ago) it shames me to say but yeah I lived as though I wasn't diabetic didn't own a meter and didn't always give novo ... sometimes just lantis I was playing bloody gambling with my life now I look back I can't believe how stupid I was My hba1 when I had two miscarriage was 98 or 100 and something I think ! It was only when I started over and did everything correctly for 9 months before falling preg I realised just how bad it was .... my life is v different now with diabetes before I ignored I had it and now my lie is centred round diabetes lol :) I used to just have a random guess at what I'd eaten to inject when I even remembered .... wows .... so yeah I went from 0-100 in a short space of time too and it's def affected my eyes ... I will never fall into this pattern again I'm now 24 and have been diabetic for 16 years so I think the stage of denial is over with lol so glad I am where I am today and very greatful so far my baby is ok

Did you ask baby's weight for the 4d ? I wasn't told mine :-( ... 28 weeks I was told 2lb 11 on NHS scan but yeah they can be out so you never really know ... I wouldn't say that's too big! On my growth chart my baby is just below 50th centile on the graph apparently which surprised me ! So your be on track (well if u weren't consultant would of brought this up for definate !) I will take a pic of my chart and post a pic I never really understand them But I think my baby's tummy is also bigger I'm not worried about it baby's are made to have big bellies lol also baby may have been swallowing fluid as they were scanning... as long as consultant is happy then
How has the scan gone if you've had it now anyhow ?:).....
with the sugars ... yep my highs started around weeks 24 weeks I think but rose a lot at 28 weeks too and since then kept going up and up .... iv found going to bed on a 7 I correct with 2 units ... because although docs say oh no that's fine go to bed at 6-8 I know my body it just carries on rising haha so I wake up an hour from going to bed test and usually correct ... I have to keep correcting in the night as I wake two hourly after first alarm too like last night I went to bed at 3.3 left it and hour later 4.9 then 2 hours later 7.2 gave two units then woke to 5.9 two hours later then 3 hours after two units 7.4 ... pre breakfast .... are u finding your correction dose has doubled too?
This is only me but I'd rather give a little too much insulin to drop into 3 . Something and raise it with food than too stay at a high level which definately is more worrisome for me :-/ .... I figure whichever way u go as long as neither is for a substained period of time so under two hours then the damage won't be too much :)
It is all so stressful so many people don't understand being diabetic and pregnant and it would take a life time to explain really so I don't bother but it truely is a full time job we are doing but for healthy baby it is so worth it !!
My scan 32 weeks is Thursday ... the fact I'm meant to be induced at 37 weeks and havnt yet moved teams or know their guild lines yet is stressing me as it's 5 weeks away now I just hope scan day is ok and I can report some good news

Hope to hear a good update soon Xxx

Hey ladies!

Hope you are all well :)

Got my latest hba1c results last week - it's now 57. Not a huge drop since January (it was 61) but I'm pleased it has lowered. I've spoken to my consultant at the pre-pregnancy clinic and she has said she's happy for me to start trying for a baby if I feel ready to. Obviously it's nowhere near as good as you girls had managed, but I'm hoping it will come down more whilst we're trying. Hopefully once there is a little one on-board my sugars will get better again!

Thanks for all the help :) x

Hi @wannabemammy Thank you! I was really pleased too. I know the hba1c result isn't perfect but I'm trying my best to bring it down more. How are things going for you? x

@MelissaC it's a massive improvement from what it was so don't sell yourself short! I think mine was in and around that when I started trying, took 2 months to fall pregnant at which point it fell to 6.7%! You are so close it's within touching distance! Things are going great thanks for asking! Was back at maternity yesterday and baby is measuring 24 weeks (I'll be 23 weeks tomorrow!) really looking forward to the end already even though I've some ways to go! only because I'm dying to meet my little munchkin!
