Type of diabetes
Don't have diabetes
I haven't been diagnosed with diabetes as my gp doesn't seem to think I need a blood test but I seriously think I do my husband is a type 2 diabetic on both insulin and tablets. I often wake up most mornings to find my blood glucose levels at 3 sometimes below. I get shaky sweating dizzy sometimes very tired so am I diabetic or is it possible to just have the condition known as hypoglycaemia

Non-diabetics can have low blood sugars, but often don't realise, simply because they have no real reason or the kit to test, and therefore find out.

Usually diabetes is a condition where the individuals are challenged by raised numbers, rather than low ones. There are various sorts of hypoglycaemia, but from what you write it would be impossible to guess which, if any you could have.

So, on the days you wake with those symptoms, what do you do, and what is the outcome? Is there any correlation to having a larger or small meal the night before, or a glass of wine, or other alcohol?

If your Doctor is currently unwilling to run any blood tests, then, in your shoes, I would undertake some research of my own, to build a data set, to either support my case with the doctor, or to reassure myself. The data I would be building would be everything I ate and drank each day, plus some blood tests. That way you may find there is something you do which drives this situation.

For your bloods testing; I'd be doing that at various times of the day, including during the night, if you wake for a bathroom trip. Each of those food/drink and blood results should be recorded, with the date and time. Also note down any time you feel you have the symptoms you describe.

You could elect to have a blood test done privately; there are lots of options for this, and no GP referral is required.

There could be something going on, or you could just wake up hungry sometimes.
