Bluetit1802 So if the Dr said it was 3 that would be the out come of (divide trigs by HDL) is that correct in me thinking Also if this is not on my diabetic blood test can i ask the DN to include this as i wont know what it is in future if i stop taking my statin Thanks

Probably not.. the 3 would be your total Cholesterol which in itself is a pretty meaningless number (although 3 is very low for a female of your age).

No. The 3 is your total. Doctors do not look at ratios as yet, apart from the one they are asked to look at, which is the Total/HDL ratio, which is a new addition from last year. Have you looked again at your print out? It is very unusual to have diabetic blood tests that do not include at least partial cholesterol results.

Yes, you can ask your nurse or doctor to include a full lipid test with your next lot of tests, or even before then if you are concerned. This should be done anyway.

Not sure about that for my surgery.. I just went back and looked at my old results online.. and I have only had a full lipid panel (LDL calculated I believe) since I asked for it in January this year. Before that the results just show total cholesterol. I asked the phlebotomist (who was new to the surgery) in Jan for a full panel and she said "yes of course its pointless otherwise" which quite impressed me. Now its on my records they just repeat the tests..
However mine has gone up from 5.7 to 6 so I have just been told I need a phone appointment with the doc (I'm such a bad boy was the tone!). Looking forward to the ensuing argument especially as trigs are down to 0.6 from 0.8 in Jan and HDL up to 1.72 from 1.46 in Jan looks good to me so they can stick their statins.... I wonder if the doc will be able to answer my questions about how much cholesterol levels can fluctuate during the day.

Ooh, let us know how you get on bulkbiker.
I received a letter like yours this morning too. My trygs down to 0.6 as well.
I called the surgery and talked to the receptionist, not that they are medically qualified but she understood and received the message well. I and already told nursey at my diabetic review that I would not require statins. She just nodded and suggested I had another cholesterol check in 3 months. X

Phone appointment is on 04th August so its obviously urgent!! I think they have me noted down as a statin refuser but I'll see what they have to say.. also seeing the Diabetes Nurse for the first time in over a year next week so lets see how open she is to LCHF apparently the nasty one I saw last time has left thankfully.

Thank you all so much ( Hugs) no it is not on my test results but will ask to have them put on it's like asking for the moon but will try thanks all of you
