Just got home from 3 days camping, I planned and prepared but fell right off the wagon! Far too much dry rose led to chips! Gosh they were nice at the time but then there was cake and some strange shot glass full of some incredibly sweet alcohol thing with whipped cream! Home now. Slight headache and feel a bit sick. Too scared to test today so will start again tomorrow, but disappointed with myself as I did have a plan however I only go away for a couple of days each summer (full time carer for my son who has aspergers so it's difficult) so am justifying it to myself as haven't really 'slipped' since I was diagnosed. Just need to get back on track

You know, summer holidays are difficult for anyone, but for parents of kids who have additional needs, it's a really trying time. If your son is anything like mine, his level of attention and intensity can be hugely wearing and I think you've done brillilantly daring to go off on holiday at all.

Forgive yourself for your "slip" - you had a great holiday, you relaxed, you spent some fun time with your son and now you're home again, you're back on the self-management wagon. You were only gone 3 days, and you get to let your hair down, too!

We could all live perfectly healthy lives, but where would be the fun in that?! Naughty stuff is tempting for a reason ;)

I wouldn't worry about it - all too often we get fixated on having the best control as possible while completely neglecting our mental health. Sounds to me you had 3 days off for your mental health. Good for you! And if your BGs are running high because of it - so what - just get back on track. :)

@paintylady . Life is for living. Sounds like you had a good time, you should be proud that you did what you wanted and not what your diabetes wanted.

I think of managing diabetes, a bit like cleaning my teeth. It's mostly force of habit but occasionally, I am too tired to bother when I go to bed. As a result, I wake up the next morning feeling a little naff but my teeth aren't going to fall out because I haven't cleaned them one night a year.
Taking diabetes medication and keeping to a lc diet can become habit. If you "fall off the wagon" a few days a year, your diabetes control will not fall apart.

We all know carbs lead to more carbs and cravings. After the chip what were you supposed to do? Pass on the cake? Or the creamy sweet shot? I don't think so!!! A little indulgence here and there won't kill us. We always get a wake up call from the devil on our shoulders like feeling awful, crazy bs, whatever. That's why we go back to our regular lifestyle. We've all done it. Just keep the fond memories close and feel better!!!

You will be right back on track , I think many end up doing this at some point.
