I hope this isn't going to sound daft and that someone can help. The past couple of nights when I've been awake in the early hours I've had weird, wriggling marks on my eyes. i held my hand up to my eyes and it didn't make any difference to the effect at all. it wasn't painful but when I got out of bed (at the same time) I was quite unsteady. I'm not due to see my DN until the 7th so thought I'd mention it on here.

Are they quite bright, shimmering zigzag lights? If so they could be a kind of migraine without the headache.

Hi @layladream ..
I have experienced those "weird, wriggling marks" a couple of times. I have also had a floater in my right eye for about three months. I went for my annual retinopathy exam about a month ago, which was fine but they noticed what they thought was a slight embolus (blood clot?) in my left eye. So, my doc fixed me up an appointment with a specialist last week .. he gave me the works in terms of testing everything including a duplex doppler scan of my carotid arteries (which were described as "text-book") and pronounced that I had no eye problems at all. His analysis? .. tired eyes because I was not getting enough sleep.

Obviously, I can't give you any diagnosis of your issue but I would suggest that you don't need to worry unduly .. just mention it your Nursie and/or Doc at your appointment on 7th and see what they say in terms of advice and/or follow-up

Hope this helps

Maybe some form of Hypnagogic or hypnopompic hallucinations which are quite common and can occur between wakefulness and sleep or between sleep and wakefulness.
