low reading in the night

I had a good evening meal, chicken, pots and 2 veg, followed by yoghurt. My bedtime reading was 10.0. I awoke at 2.30am with a reading of 5.1 which for me is a bit low. Rather than risk a hypo later on in the night, I got up and had a Weetabix. My reading at 8am was 13.9. What did I do wrong?

.... The milk the weetabix was possibly "back stroking" in may not have done any favours either.?

There is nothing wrong with a reading of 5.1 especially overnight. Under 4 is hypo territory. Why do you think it is too low?
Or are you taking insulin or Gliclazide or similar?

What did I do wrong?

You "treated" a perfectly normal blood sugar reading with over 20g (13g for 1 weatabix, 8g for 180ml of milk) of unbolused for carbs.

What insulin are you taking that makes you think 5 is low and needs carbs to avoid a hypo?

Hi guys,

From a post back in March. The OP appears to be on Novomix.

Is this still correct @lynbrown ?

Next time set your alarm for an hour later to test to find out the trend?
I would on a low 5 before bed. Just incase.
Once you see the trend, work from there as to whether risking hypo in sleep.
More often than not liver will dump if insulin not too high.

I had hypo at 2am on 3.6 so jam and one slice of bread gave me a low 5 fbg. Perfect for me.
I will reduce my basal if hypos keep occuring and not a one off.
I'm losing weight so most likely I'll need to reduce my insulin. You?
