I'm new to this, as I've recently become a type 3c following surgery in July. I've been missing the odd sweet treat (apart from occasional bit of dark chocolate and not so occasional ice cream!) and have been trying to find some sugar free sweets. Trouble is, everything I've found so far still has a really carb count, I assume due to the type of sweetener used. Has anyone found anything thats low carb as well as sugar free? Thanks in anticipation.

IMO its best to stay clear of sugar free sweets at any cost as the sweeteners used very often have a laxative effect x

And there may be hidden carbs apart from sugar. At our support group someone brought in 'diabetic friendly' treats sold in a well known chemist chain. When I checked the nutritional information, they were anything but. I avoided them like the plague but everyone else tried several. Result - BG spike.

I have some now and then - I stick to Sula or Ricola brands as they're the only ones I find don't affect my blood sugars - only one or two at the very most. I don't have a sweet tooth so the odd one now and then is fine but if you do have a sweet tooth maybe best avoided so you don't over indulge :)

I have recently switched to the Sula ones, tried weightwatchers ones and they affected my blood sugars

Totally understand!! I went through a phase of eating anything that was “sugar free” but all that artificial sweetener has some side effects. For me, it caused inflammation to the point where my finger joints started to seize!!

One suggestion is to check out some other dessert options. LC or Keto mug cakes for example. I use erythrytol (sp?) as a sweetener and don’t get any BG reaction. Also using whipped cream with vanilla and sweetener goes well with some berries. There are some good cheesecake recipes if you search Keto desserts as well, although I’ve not tried that.

Might give you some variety from the dark choc or ice cream.
