Hi all, I've never had a sick day since I started work (25 years) and don't know how it works, my company have a set up where if you have more than 3 sickness occasions then disciplinary action may be taken, does this also count if I'm ill due to diabetes. Been diabetic nearly 3 years now but still worry if I'm feeling ill I don't want to ring in sick just in case it goes against me. I.e. Like counting sickness when it comes to redundancies. Because we do a points system for redundancies and for the last 4 years we've had redundancies and this time I only just scraped through luckily, just worried now if I'm off and it counts against me then I could possibly loose my job next year ☹️

Though I'm no longer pro-union, they do have a place, particularly for those of us who may not be in a position to defend ourselves. My T2 diagnosis occurred just before my 28th birthday, after my then marriage broke up and I went from 77 kilos to 66 kilos in 2 months (Not good for 1.8m in height). I actually failed a random medical check up after applying for a mortgage! My family history has both T1 and T2, of which I was ignorant at the time.
After quitting the shift work I was doing, my next job involved a lot of driving before I switched to the UK civil service. In both, I joined the trade union and, in both cases, they kept me informed of what my rights etc were and, on the very rare occasions when I needed them, represented me during any difficulties.
I don't know where you are but, in the UK, we have the Disability & Discrimination Act, which helps to prevent employers from making sweeping discrimination such as refusing to employ, or sacking, Diabetics!
I'd suggest that you talk to your local union representative, and/or local civil liberties/rights folks, so that you can ensure that you are not discarded for spurious reasons!

@mick180 I see from your profile you are in Derby. As @QPR4Me says an ongoing condition like T2 diabetes should be covered by the Disability & Discrimination Act if you have been working for the employer for more than 2 years, and you have had the condition for more than 2 years.
I think it says that the employer should take the condition into account and make reasonable adjustment. I don't know how that might apply regarding possible redundancy.
If you are a trade union member you should ask them for advice. If not the nearest Citizen's Advice Bureau might be able to help.
