Hi all
I just wondered what you guys think of these 2 diets?
The thing that ive recently found is that i can bring down my bloods by watching my diet and if i go for bike ride my bloods drop even more
Still got a little way to go to but its going in the right direction.
However i need to loose about 2-4 stone to stabilise everything i think.

Ive recently come off Gliclazide as i had some problems with it and i felt like a zombie.

Anyway what do u think of these 2 diets?

The VLCD works OK for me. Weight loss has stalled after 4 weeks (expected) but probably more importantly mu BG has leveled out a lot with very few readings over 7 and then only for 1/2 hour or so (small slice of toast, Sunday Morning). The FS :ibre has been invaluable.

The 5:2 diet never had the same effect on my weight or BG, however, I know several people who have used 5:2 for weight loss and done very well.

5:2 could work, but it would need to be combined with "low carb", or ideally "very low carb" on the 5 days of the week you eat. But lots of people find that "very low carb" works on its own......

The Opti 800cal diet works provided people keep to it, and (this is the hard bit) don't put the weight back on. The people who do best on it seems to have already been on a low carb diet for some time, then returns to the low carb diet after doing VLCD. There is no need to do 8 weeks of VLCD, you could, for example, choose to do one week every month for a year. (Or even do Opti 800cal on weekdays, and eat very low carb food at the weekends.)

Hay I've been in weight loss mission of last few months - done the 800cal opti - personally the first few weeks were ok regarding loss but thinned out pretty quick - so ditched that and done a bit of fasting but was to hard so now I'm been doing lchf diet (with a calorie of 1000 per day) and what I've found is that when I exercise I actully stop losing weight unless I eat more on the days I do too compensate - took a bit to figure this out - a few disappointing weeks of hard work for not much gain.

I'm guessing if I done the opti and added something to it I may have done better but 800cal and exercise and I'm in starvation.

If I eat about 12-1300 calories lchf and do exercise (were taking 45min walk or something) I pretty consistently lose already a kg a week and have done for many weeks now - the other plus is its pulled my bg in to normal range to.

Hope is some help-might just have to experiment a bit - like I say I've found less cal dosint always mean more loss for me any way

Have you tried doing a strict LCHF without limiting the calories?

It is very important you get enough protein, about 1.5–2 g per day per kg of target weight is about right. Without the protein, the exercise will not build up your muscles. Having more muscles mass greatly helps in long-term BG control, the muscles also burn fat for you 24/7 not just when you are exercising.
