Hi. I have found this forum a godsend thanks. I am adopting a low carb diet and have jenny ruhl's 3 books. The low carb counter and the 8 week blood sugar lowering book are there any other books people can recommend as I am enjoying reading them and its helping me to refine my diet. I was tested at 10.8 over 2 seperate tests at the doctor and have got my fasting level down to 7.8 in just a week by cutting out the carbs which is very pleasing. Thanks...will

The Obesity Code. By Dr Jason Fung is a great read about Type2 .
Hi @bulkbiker - I was about to download this to read later today as looks good, but in the reviews on Amazon it says he explains why low fat/low carb diets don't work. I thought he was an advocate of low carb - does he really say that about it?

I would imagine they mean low fat high carb diets. Yes he is a Low Carb advocate although maybe slightly less simplistic. He believes that it is really all about insulin responses. By reducing our insulin responses by either fasting or not eating carby foods we can fix our metabolic derangement, bring sugars down and lose weight without the need to "diet". He is also very against the Calories In Calories Out which he calls Calorie Reduction As Primary (****) believing that different food types cause different responses in the body triggering different hormones. If you are bit sciency its a good read.

Thank you - I will give it a go, I really like to try and understand the science behind particular methods to reverse diabetes - it sounds good. On different foods causing different responses - have seen this myself in having a green smoothie with loads of raw veg - the carbs amount to over 20 in one go but my blood sugars don't bat an eyelid - lentil soup with just 14 carbs and I spike by 4! Thanks as ever for your help.

Try Fat for Fuel by Dr Joe Mercola. It is about metabolic health in general but highly relevant to type 2 diabetics. has a practical section too.
Have you tried any podcasts btw? I haven't read The Obesity Code but have read the Fung Fasting book.
I do not want to do him out of any publishing revenues but he i s an excellent and clear speaker so there is a lot of him on You Tube on both obesity and fasting. For this reason I'd also recommend Gary Taubes!

Thanks, will check these out!

While downloading The Obesity Code I saw on Amazon that Jason Fung has a new book The Diabetes Code: Prevent and Reverse type 2 Diabetes Naturally - coming out 1 April.
