HbA1c. What is good or bad

Hi just learning about all this and a little lost
On 12/01/2018 I was 6.9% and my Dr said I had T2
On 17/04/2018 I was 6.4% and I have been on Metformin 500g per day for a month now

I understand the target is no more than 7% but what is a “normal” %

The wife and I enjoy the lchf way of eating but now and then we have a slice of bread and a square or two of chocolate

Usually our carbs are under 100 g per day but we aim for 20 - calories are around 1200 per day but we hardly lose any weight

We are both in our 70’s and both feel rather good for our age - we have the normal wingers but me having had open heart surgery and the wife had both hips replaced there are many of our friends not as “healthy” as us

I’m printing a copy to take to my next telling off! Just to show them that I’m completely in the green

@Peterseaford That refers to the telling off I got yesterday for an HbA1c of 6.1% - the nurse said it was too low

Under 6% is non-diabetic
Between 6% and 6.5% is pre-diabetic
Over 6.5% is diabetic.

As you are 6.4% you are in the pre-diabetic range.

Pretty bad I'm afraid. Have you made any plans to reduce it?

Bad. But you can change it! Buy meter and start with LCHF diet.

Thanks for the replies, started changing diet already, and trying to increase excercise. Doctor said in next three months he will probably add more medication.
