Just experienced a horrible episode that felt like a 2.9. Checked twice and it was 4.9. Cold sweats, impending doom etc.
My last hypo was over a week ago. Does this mean I’m riding too high at the moment? Has anyone else experienced this?

Hope you don't mind me jumping in on your post mountaintom, as I my get answers to my question that is similar to yours. There I was thinking'I'm being so good, going low carb with a reading of 5.7 this morning, then i wasn't hungry so didin't bother eating anything, just felt tired, went to sleep and woke-up feeling sick, went very white and felt weak no energy, could not face eating anything, blood was 5.0, felt like I was going to pass out so could only face sweet food, so had a couple of biscuits, still don't feel well now, and feel like I need to re-set my body, if you know what I mean - Does this happen because my body is throwing a tantrum saying it does not like going as low as 5.0 when it is used to approx 5.7 please?

I believe this is either ...
a false hypo where you’re body is used to a higher BG, as you suggest.
But this would be a pretty high normal BG: higher than 5.7.
Or ...
you had something on your finger which gave you a wrong reading.
If I ever get an unexpected reading, I wash my hands and try again.
Or ...
it is nothing related to diabetes.
If you keep experiencing these symptoms with a BG above 4.0, I suggest discussing it with your doctor (NOT diabetes team).

Thank you for your reply - I did wash my hands before testing - doctors are not interested, as I am not yet pre-diabetes, but one point (41) away from it, so I decided to try and get my levels down before it becomes pre-diabetes - doctors say my levels are fine and not to self-test or worry etc.

Could be that you've been riding too high, but another thing to consider is that when there's a rapid drop, the body sometimes seems to go into panic mode, even though you're not near 4, adrenalin is pushed out to tell the liver to release glucose, and it's the adrenalin, as a side effect, which causes the sweating.

"Impending doom" - Thanks, I've had a few people at work asking me what a hypo is like, I think I'll chuck that in as part of the description!

Sorry, I meant to write, if this persists, to see your doctor (NOT diabetes team) as it may have nothing to do with diabetes with BG levels you have mentioned.

I have corrected my reply above.

Thank you - I shall keep an eye on it.

I feel like this sometimes a few hours after eating sometimes usally after breakfast I’d eat around 8 and then about 10 I check and my BG is for example 8.0 then I start to feel low like 20 minutes later and my BG says for example 4.3 do you feel hypo if your BG goes down fast?

Hi Ziggy my BG does not fall fast as far as I am aware, but then again I am new to this, so havn't tested that often.

I think it is a case of my body not being used to low 5's - it prefers to run at approx 5.7 to 6's.

Thanks.
I think it was a quick drop. I bolused for affogato a few hours prior. Probably far too much. I’ve been riding low teens a bit more often than I should in the last few weeks so it’s possibly a mix of the two.

I'd agree with Scott-C, and add when I don't trust a reading I repeat the test, (we are talking finger pricking & not Libre? As the Libre's a little behind)

'Impending doom' is an apt description :)

"impending doom." Probably is a good description.

Though, when i'm asked by a non D, @Scott-C . I normally tell em it's a little like getting "baked".. If they ever had a dodgy "Hendrix experience" back in the misspent youth... ;)

"Measure twice, cut once." (An old tradesman saying, but quite apt.) if your result does not tally up with how you feel..

I would follow the same approach for Libre (and CGM) as I do for finger pricks: if I don't trust the reading I repeat with a finger prick. Even taking the delay into account, they are far from fail proof.
... But still have their uses; it's just not the gospel.

Yeah I’m only using pricks at the moment. Have a stack of libres gathering dust in the bathroom cupboard as I’ve had enough of them for a while.

Ha brilliant. I thought I was the only one who thought these thoughts. Ive actually described it to one person as “like falling into a K-Hole”. If you know what that is then just nod or wink.

I've always said "neigh" to that one myself.. But. ;) I have seen it's effects on others. :banghead:

"Riding too high" is something I've never considered before. I've felt all of these pretty severe hypo symptoms when I've been above 4.0 and I've never once considered it could be because of my body being used to a higher blood sugar on a regular basis. 10 years of being diabetic and I'm still learning things!
