HI I HAVE JUST BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH THE ABOVE FOLLOWING 3/4 FAINTING BOUTS IN DECEMBER 2017, BEEN ADVISED NOT TO WORK AS I WORK AT HEIGHTS AND OPERATE MACHINERY. BEEN T2 FOR 20+ YEARS AND NOW TOLD I AM T1. GIVEN NO OTHER ADVICE OTHER THAN TO WAIT FOR A NEUROLOGIST APPOINTMENT, THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS AS I HEAR THERE IS NO CURE, WILL I EVER BE ALLOWED BACK TO WORK AS I AM ONLY 57. I HAD A TRIPLE HEART BYPASS 6 YEARS AGO. ANY HELP WOULD BE HELPFUL. I AM ON NOVORAPID AND LANTUS AT NIGHT, ONLY OTHER MEDS THAT I AM ON ARE ASPIRIN AND AMYITRIPTILINE AND ATORVOSTATIN. THEY HAVE STOPPED ALL OTHERS.

Hi @jamie thomson

Welcome. Sorry to hear of your troubles. Do you have a date for neurologist?
Can you tell us a little more about the change in diagnosis from t2 to t1? How long have you been using insulin? How well controlled were your sugars over the years.

Thanks for reply, still waiting on an appointment for neurologist. My diabetic consultant did some tests about 2 years ago and told me that i no longer produce insulin from pancreas and said i am now T1. Over the years i have been around 10, as advised as i worked at heights i had to be around 7 - 10. Then this burden turned up, still get dizzy spells but no more fainting episodes so far, as soon as i feel dizzy i put myself to the floor till it passes. Advised not to fly which hurts the most as i am a sun worshiper. Await any feed back

So were you only put on insulin 2 years ago? I ask because diabetes type does not change and it is odd that 18 years would have passed relatively healthily without insulin.
It seems likely that you are t2 with insulin because your beta cells burnt out. You may want to check this with the hospital.
Running sugars regularly at 10 could have caused the neuropathy.
Some people say that keeping blood sugars under 8 can help improve it. Some supplements are also said to help.
You may want to create a thread asking if anyone has experience of improving neuropathy.

Sorry may have picked me up wrong. I was put on insulin in 1995 as a t2 but 2 years ago was advised that i was now t1. I was advised by consultant to keep levels between 7 and 10

Ah, OK. Was that advice because of the working at height? Because that is quite a high range.
