Thanks to @Indy51 who has posted this in an exisisting thread about Statins. I thought it deserved a thread of it’s own, as it’s an important issue for a lot of us.

Thanks so much for re-posting the link. I watched it with great interest, and simply had to call a friend to tell her to watch it. I'm seriously considering ditching my statins, and already dread the discussion I know I'll be having with my doc.

Show him the video. That might save you the bother of an argument.

I know, but it's only there for a limited time, and it's 1 hour 2 minutes long.

So email it to him!!!!!! Or give him the link to listen to for his homework. In any event, all he can do is offer you statins. He cannot stand over you and force feed.

Thing is, I don't even know who he/she, as that changes from time to time. Initially it was made as an offer you can't refuse under threats of imminent death. Anyway, you're right, it's my choice, but I should at least let whoever know what I'm doing.

I'll keep these for use later "!!!!!".

e-mail? do you have your doctor's e-mail address? My surgery do not allow us mere mortals to have such things... their doctors are only to be contacted by equally elevated beings...

The practice manager/admin section have a public email address. It's on the practice website. They pass things through to the doctors and nurses, although my nurse did give me hers.

This is an endo clinic at a hospital in Denmark. If you want to write to them you have to go through a digitised system, logging in with user name and, curiously enough, a cardboard key card. All very well, but I still haven't managed to get a reply through that system. My next appointment is in October.

I have my GP’s email address. I don’t know if I’m supposed to. I emailed the practice’s general address with a query which was passed onto my GP. The reply came back from the general email address with my GP copied in! I’ve only used his address once since and there was no objection forthcoming! :)

Thankyou for posting this

I am currently ignoring my doctors explicit demand to take statins, the problem here is what to believe. How is an uneducated person supposed to know what’s best? This video seems extremely easy to believe, I questioned the statins with my doctor who was very strong in his defence of the drug.

My dad died of an unexpected heart attack at 67 years, he had high cholesterol and diabetes, which makes me feel I am at an increased risk, but he also took statins.

It’s an impossible decision to make, five years after being prescribe statins, I am still not taking them

It seems unfair

Thanks for posting this. The thing that really struck me was that 'paid for science' isn't science at all as the results are manipulated.

I seem to be managing my T2 well with a low carb diet but my cholesterol levels have gone up to the point when the specialist nurse has 'strongly advised' me to take statins. I am very reluctant but have been told to go away, think about it, and we are to have a dedicated session in a couple of weeks to discuss it further.
I have already come across another area overly influenced by the pharma industry and this adds credence to what is being said in the film.
Probably the hardest task of managing diabetes is working out who on earth to believe. Are many others on here ignoring medical advice re statins?

What is your cholesterol, including HDL/LDL and triglycerides? What were they before your low carb diet?

In a word yes.. completely. I'm afraid I know more about it than my GP does so will continue to ignore him.

Have you lost weight on your low carb eating? I initially lost weight very quickly and my cholesterol numbers deteriorated which can happen with rapid weight loss. The next time I had my cholesterol levels checked, although my total cholesterol was the same, my good bits had gone up and the bad bits had gone down. At each review with my GP Statins were mentioned but less so each time, partly I think because my numbers now seem to be improving and partly because he knows I don’t want to take them. My reasons are potential side effects which may not resolve on stopping them and that they raise blood sugars and I don’t want to undo all the hard work I put in getting and keeping them down.
