What Happens If I’m Continually Running High

Thank you. I missed dr call as was in meetings and then travellingView attachment 27204

My pre lunch was lower although still 12, then ate on the run which ended up being a sandwiche. I need to plan for when travelling between meetings.

Was surprised between pre and after dinner, I had no carbs at all.
Pity you missed your chance to speak with someone, it’s difficult when you work to be available isn’t it?
I think one of the key things is to try and plan your food for each day in advance, it’s a chore to start with, especially if you’ve been used to just grabbing something on your travels but by planning and taking food with you puts you in control.
While I am making the evening meal I make up my lunch for the next day and at the same time think about breakfast and evening meal for that day, this helps me to decide what I can have, how much of it I can have and when I will eat it. As I said it seems a bit of a pain but you soon get used to doing it. This might help you in these early days.

Wow with those levels you must be feeling tired and overwhelmed.

Yep always tired, feeling sick and achy insides. I could fall asleep anywhere at the moment.

Just wish my first appointment with nurse was closer. But still I know more than I did a week ago thanks to this group x

Thank you. Yes I will do this. Have decided to keep a small snack box in my bag so have got something to fall back on. Looking at the shops it looks much harder if you are not prepared

I felt the same sway before I had my BG underconrol. I hope you find a solution.

Definitely, even now I sometimes think that there isn’t anything I can have when I’m out and about, of course there is, but it’s harder when you have to think about everything. Preparing your lunch and taking it with you is good.

Thanks I am concentrating on the pre and post meal numbers. Pre lunch was 20.5 and after 24.8. Waiting now to do evening one.
Can you skip an evening meal and see what your fasting bg number is? Only if your not on any drug lower meds, of course?
That number is more of a realistic measure of how you're really doing.

Am on Metformin?

I am on the full dose of 4 Metformin slow release version. I have to take them all together with food. I have a cooked breakfast, skip lunch and have an evening meal.

Hi how have things been for you today?

To be honest have been with my son at the hospital all day and haven’t taken levels at all. He had an op this afternoon so he was nil by mouth so I stayed the same till he could eat.

My wake up was 16.7, will now wait till the morning as don’t think anything will be accurate.

My lower legs are very swollen, my socks really cut in today, not sure if this is related but have made a note to check with nurse

Thank you for checking on me, I’ll be back in it tomorrow. Need sleep but he’s still being sick from the anaesthetic x

I am building up to 1500mg a day split over 3 meals

Aww bless you, your son needing an operation will no doubt have been worrying you which in turn could be part of the reason for your levels running high. I hope you both have restful nights and as you say tomorrow is a new day and a chance for a new start. Take care and hopefully you will have a better day tomorrow.

@NikkieDuranie
I don't want to sound alarmist but if you have edema at your extremities it may be fluid build up. I wouldn't wait for the nurse. You need to get it checked out pronto.

Hi I hope today has been a better day for you and that your son is recovering well?

Hi

Diagnosed last week and asking good questions already. That's a positive place to be.

Yes they are high, not far off where i started, and I'm normal now ( some would argue with me on this point)

Are you on meds? If so whixh one(s)?

If they stay this high then yes the damage can be terrible and lige changing. It will creep down ove the next weeks and months. Do keep a food diary, record everything, data is more useful than you would imagine.

Best advice. Avoid bread pasta spuds rice etc. Go to s basic diet while your stats come down.
Drink water, it's fantastic at keeping you feeling full. Also a bit of hunger won't be the end of you.

Lots to learn, take your time to develop good habits and you will do fine.

@daisy1 could you share your great page of advide
