This week was my 6 monthly diabetes endo appointment. The last time I saw this particular consultant (1 year ago) I left the room feeling incredibly demotivated, lost and hopeless. So much so that I tried my best to hold back the tears as I waited inline to book my next appointment then cried all my way back to my car and beyond (I’m normally pretty poker faced and rarely cry!) I couldn’t snap out of feeling so down about my diabetes, this went on for months.
In September I joined the Forum and from there everything changed... I found out about the Libre, went low carb, joined the T1 community on Instagram and got the best HbA1c and control in my 24 years of diabetic life.
The Libre definitely helped me but it’s not the sensor alone that caused change - it’s using the insight to make informed choices and it’s the hard work and commitment required every single day. It’s also learning from this incredible community.
It’s taken me years to find what works for me, with very little support from my consultant. I still see people’s HbA1c way lower than mine and have to stop myself from feeling guilty and comparing myself. This consistent HbA1c is progress for me, this is my good and I’m not striving for anything more than continued control, even if that means a slight rise in HbA1c over time.
Whilst my appointment experience was disappointing yet again... 1.5 hours wait, not once asked how I’ve achieved results it went well in that all my results were good:
- HbA1c
- cholesterol
- no weight gain

Thank you for all the support

Incredible what a life changer the Libre is isn't it, I learned more about myself from using it for just a few months than I did in 14 years as a diabetic including all the meetings and explanations from various specialists etc. Me being of the extremely high metabolism kind, I've never struggled with weight or anything like that, but as a diabetic the ability to eat like a man of three times my size with zero weight gain can be extremely dangerous internally when you don't care or have the ability to look at what actually happens to your insides when you eat like that.

Exactly! Glad you’ve found it to help you too.

Very, very well done. I recall you arriving here, with your other name, and how down you were. What you have shown, along with many other things, is the power of self-empowerment.
