My 30 day average post evening meal BG reading is 5.6. Tonight after our usual salad I "treated" myself to some chocolate (16 g @ 53% carbs) - result BG reading after 2 hours 6.7! B*gg*r. Got my HbA1c next week!! Hope it does't show up! Just shows though, that you can't be too careful. Glucose intolerance will find you and bite you on the bum!

Well that is only a 1.1 mmol rise so not to bad... It won;t have much impact on your HbA1c anyway so you should be fine.

Yeah, I just like to keep below a BG of 6 after meals. Just occasionally I have been below 5 after a meal, boy did I feel good!

If you fancy a chocolate hit from time to time, the very high cocoa percentage chocolate (80%+) is much lower in carbs. Bit of an acquired taste, but now that I have it, anything below 90% tastes quite sweet.

. . . . . result BG reading after 2 hours 6.7! B*gg*r.

Normal BG, 2 hours after meal, for person without diabetes is less than 140 mg/dl (7.8 mmol/L), the official ADA recommendation for someone with diabetes is less than 180 mg/dl (10.0 mmol/L).

Not sure why that's a problem or how one reading, being a moment in time, will affect an 8 - 12 week average. Not even sure if I'd call it Glucose Intolerance as it's well within the recommendation for non diabetics.

I just like to keep below a BG of 6 after meals.

Is there a reason for this, baring in mind what the recommendations are?

To be honest I think that’s within range so not sure why you are worrying.

Thanks for all your replies. I'm not really worried about the one reading, I just like to keep a tight control on my BGs. My main problem is getting my Fasting reading consistently below 6 mmol, this AM it was 6.5, slightly higher than usual (that darn chocolate again). Carbs seem to take a long time to clear from my system, if I have - for me - a carb heavy meal, it will show up in my readings for a couple of days. I know from past experience that if I don't slightly obsess about my eating habits, I could well slide into much higher readings. So for now I'm going out on my bike for an hour or three to get rid of that pesky glucose!
