Heat And Insulin Resistance.

I’m on a ridiculous medication that causes insulin resistance (before I was on it no issues) since this heat extravaganza my insulin requirements are much higher. Is this okay? I have put a call into my nurse but she is snowed under with other patients.

Is it the heat or new medication that makes you insulin requirements go up?
If medication, is it something you have to take long term or only for a short while? If long term, are there alternatives? Can you still dose to stay within reasonable limits or are you in danger of DKA?
If heat, I'd just adjust insulin as needed. If that proves impossible, check ketones and go to a+e when they're too high.

Since this flamethrower of a season, my insulin requirements have dropped especially my basal.

However, some do say dosage goes up..

I notice from your profile you take Lantus & Novorapid. (Which is my prescription.")
Have you recently changed from any of these meds listed.?
If not? When did you last change your Lantus cartridge or pre filled pen? Lantus may lose potency if out for too long...?
i've had some shocking performance issues with lantus dropping in potency about 2/3rds down the cartridge in the past...

Edited to add I've just reread your message.. What new med have you been prescribed that makes you feel causes IR?
 
my insulin requirements generally increase in warmer weather.........................this summer has been particularly noticeable

A+e? What does this mean?
 
Hi @rorshach, Another thought is whether the medication you are prescribed, the one that puts your insulin resistance up, might cause greater insulin resistance in hot weather ?
 
Thank you all so much for some reason it was only today that I was able to see responses (I’ve definitely done something wrong)

Luckily since things have been cooler things have been much better. Thank you so much for your responses.
