Type 1'stars R Us

That was an interesting morning.

Had my "3 month follow up part of the 6 month Libre trial", she was pleased with the way things are going but interestingly it seems that the goals have changed for "for being in the green", school of thought is now 4 - 10mmol.

At that setting I have been 87% in target over the last 90 days. So :woot: me.

She changed the setting on the official Libre reader (not a fan of that device) however, I have set my Libre App and MySugar to 5-9.5 mmol.

Also I have a new insulin pen one of the SolStar Child pens which does 0.5 units which means Apidra carts instead of the all in one disposable pens and I am getting moved to Tresbia, which fits my current Nova pens. Should be fun, nice to have a change from Lantus as I have been on it for nigh on 20 years :)

Oh course getting up late and being on the low side before I set off in the car, meant, 2 jaffa cakes, 2 glugo tabs, 1 jelly baby, just to even things out :hilarious: and as expected paid the price with a 13.4 later on.

No worries, back down to mid 5's so all OK :angelic:

@Cumberland sound like you had a god day as well, hope a cancelation comes in quick.

I have mine set to 4 - 10. Been that for a while and still struggle to keep to 100% lol. What was your levels set to before??

@Mel dCP and @porl69 Before today the "official" reader was set to low 5 upper 9 and I think, at that, I was like between 50 - 60% in target range, I think anyway, I'm not 100% sure but changing the values to 4 and 10 now make me 87% in target.

In the old days we used to call it "manipulation of the data" :hilarious:

The other apps I use on the phone I have left the low at 5 but moved the upper to 9.5 but as far as I am concerned once I hit 10 I'm in Hyper land :yuck::yuck:

But originally the settings were made by another member of this particular DSN team, who at the moment is off long term ill. So what happens on the next meeting is.....well... no idea :cat:

As for starting the Tresiba, I don't know, maybe next week I will either get and email or just drop the surgery and ask i there is any there for me :).

@Mel dCP thanks for the code had only just changed it back the I changed from the Nova Echo to these disposable pens and now once there gone, I'll change the reader back to half units again

Out of interest what are the bloods for legal limits for driving?

If you are on insulin T1 or T2 you have to be 5.0 minimum, under this then it breaks the law
Guidelines for journeys is to test every 2 hours

Not strictly true - you have to not be hypo. 5.0 is recommended, because it means in the two hours between tests (because DVLA haven't caught up with technology yet) you're less likely to go under.

See eg https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/life-with-diabetes/driving - if under 4, don't drive, if under 5, eat something before setting off but you can still drive.

Hi fellow Type 1 r's hope is all going well for you all today

had a pretty **** day yesterday with fairly high BG all afternoon and night, around 11. Took small correction dose before bed and I stayed fairly flat all night, unfortunately that was around 11 all night

Even this morning with correction dose still at 11 ish. Now dropped slightly before lunch, to 8.1 , but no doubt after lunch this will go back up again.

Ah well tomorrow I have my post ADAPT course, session, 2 hours of what benefits we got from course

Ah the joys of type 1 NOT. So after thinking I would be highish all day done a check at 3.30 and this was down at 6.1. Not a drama for most of course, but I know that before my dinner at 6 oclock, this will drop by around 3 steps. So a wee cuppa and a biscuit and now at 6 oclock sitting at 6.6

My Libre is set at 4.5--8.5 and I am about 60% in target. Now do I manipulate the data and change this to 4--10:nailbiting::nailbiting:

Was that after you corrected the hypo from a walk in the park? That's a bit disappointing, walks in the parks should be nice events, not ones that generate a long run of high blood sugars.

Looks like the T!D gremlin has flagged up for you an experience of what benefits you didn't get from the course. Which, whether they like it or not, is also useful feedback for them.

Hi Alison, to be fair probably a lot of it was my fault. Miscalculating carbs and insulin causing the low. Now as I was out and about when hypo happened and do not want to take any chances, so probably overdid the fast acting carbs, coke and chocolate. Rightly or wrongly I would rather go high than end up having to have someone phone an ambulance

Haven't we all been there? The shovelling of food in to correct a hypo is definitely something I've done many times. I'm working on it, and I definitely have to try quite hard to resist the temptation.

Depends which website you look at
But I was told on the DAFNE course minimum 5.0

The DCUK website says this

Yep, but it doesn't say it's the law. If you go to the government pages, you won't find the numbers mentioned. The law just says not hypo, and if you were pulled over and tested at say 4.5, a prosecution would not go anywhere if you can demonstrate that isn't hypo for you. I'm not disagreeing with the advice that being above 5 is a good idea, just pointing out that it is advice and not law.

I've been told many times by different consultants and nurses I have to be above 5 to drive. So I have been topping up with carbs when I'm between 4.0 to 5.0 and waiting around to measure 5.0 before I can drive. It's good to know that it's not unlawful to drive when 4.0 to 5.0. HCPs should provide us with correct info really... (and I will not drive if I think I might go hypo.)

There’s a running Spinal Tap joke in my house that when my bloods go out of my range (3.8-7) that I should just make 7 louder :D
In our house any mention of Stone Henge results in repetitions of "stone enge" and giggles. Even from the child who has not yet seen the film.

Old dog new tricks tonight, a lower carbs tea as in a chicken omelette with veg and rice 60g carbs 3u (only as I was busy :p ), and another 1.5u for supper, fingers crossed this will work out, and if so then the supper time jab will become normal, 5 weeks into Tresiba tomorrow and there are changes to make to fine tune but I'm pleased with it.

Sleep well y'all :)

i thought only politicians manipulated the data !!

Probably too inconvenient to do a BSL to see whether you had rebounded top a sufficient level (or more) via adrenaline ??

@Mel dCP this is probably a silly question as i am not type 1 but very interested. So you guys can eat pretty much what you want and then inject for it is that how it works?. Of course i understand that many wouldn't as some may have to watch weight and so on. Also does the insulin cause a lot of weight gain. I'm type2 but it was so high on diagnose early this year that the doctor said.." not to me but to my husband" which i'm still angry about:banghead: because he doesn't have the condition i do. anyway he says insulin is a fat explosion and we don't want her on that. Needless to say i got it down to 5.8 from 11.4 in 3 months. Still i was curious about food and then injecting for it. Actually any type 1's can answer that.
