I use the Contour Next device, not the cheapest but I find it consistent.
This week I am changing batches and often, not always, do side by sides.
Yesterday, current lot 5.4 and 5.3, new lot 6.0 and 5.8.
Today, current lot 5.4 new lot 5.8.
This is actually the largest difference between batches I've experienced..
It might be useful if the next month is 0.5 higher than "normal", what ever that is.

I'd consider these to be consistent, since the readers are generally have a precision of 15%. Plus if you're worried about a 0.4 difference, then you must be doing well!
 
@hankjam I would be over the moon with those differences. As @SamJB has stated there is a 15% allowable variance in the reading and they appear to be well with that range. I can use 2 different fingers within 1 minute of each other and get larger fluctuations
