Good morning have a good day all was going to say i cant wait for fireworks tonight but im sick to death of them being going off for weeks now and some of them sound like explosions .cant ye tell ive not had much sleep rant over

Nah, nah, dcukmod, once a Scot always a Scot, even if you live England-side (although my nephew who is now in Kent has developed an unhealthy interest in cricket, so I might need to disown him..)!

I'm in Edinburgh, what's the conference about?

The hospitals here have one of the most liberal libre policies anywhere - if you're T1 you get it.

Here's a link to ECED, Edinburgh Centre for Endocrinology and Diabetes, a collaboration of the main hospitals in the area.

http://www.edinburghdiabetes.com

They're doing some interesting stuff. Dr Fraser Gibb at RIE has been pushing out some data on how a1c has been dropping substantially and safely in the first 300 or so peeps on libre. Dr Debbie Wake at WGH is rolling out her online MyDiabetesMyWay records tracking gig to England and abroad.

Can't find the link now, but there's also some dark stuff going on with islet transplants too.

Foodwise, if you're low carbing, Ondine on George IV Bridge in the centre of the old town does some pretty decent seafood:

The Outsider further down the Bridge is also an excellent place to eat, but maybe not so low carb, but there's a few options there which you could stitch together:

Ooooh,............ all excellent intel.

My brother, and some of wider family still live in Scotland, so I do hear about various "stuff" going on up there. Certainly diabetes care seems fairly forward thinking - in some areas, but like everything else, the bigger picture is the usual Curate's Egg.

The conference I'll be attending is here: http://www.publicengagement.ac.uk/nccpe-projects-and-services/engage-conference/engage-2018

(My attendance doesn't relate to this site, or DCUK in general, just in case anyone thinks I'm on a DCUK jolly. :) )

My Libre sensor is on its last day. Went to bed last night 4.3 and going down. Oops better have something to eat. Before I did done a finger prick and its 6.9. Not bother with anything to eat then

Woke up around 2am and Libre test says LO. Last time it was that I had my assisted hypo, so wee bit of panic sets in, but hey I dont feel too bad. Quick finger check and its actually 3.3, so not too bad. Did have coffee couple of sugars and 2 choccy bics, as by this time my mind keeps drifting back to my hypo. I then start to convince myself that I am reallllly low and of course the panic starts again. Give it 5 minutes finger test says 3.5 so good to go. Libre took nearly 4.5 minutes to register anything other than LO and even then it was a 2.8 and steady.

Dont know if it was because sensor was on last day or do Abbot need to get their act together with the readings. I appreciate that it runs about 15 mins behind bloods but come on

Lol, quite rightly so, and it's probably because the batsmen put salt on their porridge!

Aawww that reminds me of my dear ole dad (born in Gallowgate, mum was from a village called Lochwinoch) he always put salt on his porridge, that's was Scots way, none of that 'soft sugar stuff ' bless <3

I've noticed that for some people libre sensors seem to be less accurate in the last few days, but for me they are at their most accurate, and I can't bear to say goodbye to them, as I have to start all over again, building up that relationship.

Libre can be difficult with low blood sugar, it's best to use fingerprick tests for correcting hypos. It is a bit weird though seeing Libre showing LO, when the fingerprick tests show higher, it doesn't feel safe, and I start wondering who to believe. Just best to ignore Libre until the hypo is corrected.

Whoah, sacrilege! The only thing which should be added to porridge is salt. If we went down the cream route, we'd have lost WWII, and we'd all be reading the Guardian by now, and that never ends well...

Love your quote, it's a winner :)
Totally agree with you, my dad was a paratrooper in WW11. He lived until he was 94 and his way was to keep going whatever, he used to say 'that's because of our Scottish blood' I class myself as Scottish, even though my sister and I were born in England ( brother's born in Scotland, one still lives there) I am so proud to be Scottish:joyful:

Morning everyone,

woke at 6 am to 3.6 on Libre, which was slightly annoying as I'm trying to improve my data on hypos. But I think it's a price worth paying for a better sleep. Fingerprick test showed 3.7, so it was close.

Now sitting in the low 5s, which is my favourite blood sugar place, and will do just nicely as a start for the day.

I'm taking part in a November songwriting challenge, I love these things, so if @Diakat finds herself doing that as well, it's really time to worry.

Morning y'all, a 10.0 for me, better than yesterday anyway and basal's at lunchtime so I'll see how this settles, looking on the bright side I've got rid of the creeping basal hypos I was getting :)

Onwards and not quite upwards but more in a straight line :p and have a happy Monday :)

Morning teabags,
Him indoors was born and brought up in Scotland and loves honey on his porridge, but he has English parents so maybe that explains it.
Woke 5.5 this morning but the upward sloping arrow on the Libre means a DP unit’s going in now. 5.5’s a relief, big corrected rise before sleep, probably the after effects of a late afternoon plate of party food (no cake ☹️) that did as supper so a blank patch later when the novo ran out and the Levemir hadn’t kicked in yet.
I’m not knitting, or kite flying, or painting the house even though some of it needs it, but off to make mud pies today - I love it! And I’ll continue learning silversmithing in January. I really really wish I could get photos uploaded here - does anyone do it with an iPhone and iPad?

Morning all

Monday :arghh: and got full on CBA but hey got to pay the bills so here I am.

Libre I find a very odd things and have said this before. I have had Libre say LO for nearly a week yet xDrip was showing mid 4's to mid 5's which was close to the finger pricks and Libre also does odd things when running high a few weeks ago it was saying 15.5  but bloods were 10.1.

Libre is a tool, good for Trends and can be helpful in tracking what your BS is doing but the sensors are so variable between batches..

As for porridge good for filling cracks in the plaster on the walls. ;):)

Now I'm chuckling, @Scott-C . Hebridean Blue Brioche?

My good old Dad (sadly long gone) used to chime up, if he thought I was making a mountain from a molehill (Moi? Perish the thought. ;) ):

"What's the matter with your girl/woman? You were built on the Clyde!"

Padded downstairs with a head full of turnips.
Dry mouth bog eyed and convinced I was high.......
Magic machine said 5.2 I spoke to said machine "are you sure"
Suffice to say it didn't reply.........

The reading made me feel better which is crackers isn't it???
I actually physically and mentally felt better!!!

Have a marvellous Monday

Tony

From learning to dive to learning to make stollen cake is a perfect skills progression, we will all look forward to hearing how you got on, and if MrsPorl liked it.

Morning all, woke with a very respectable 5.1, underdosed slightly for breakfast as I knew I was going for a decent walk, 8 before I started, 4.5 when I got back - I'll take that!
@smc4761 I ignore Libre once I know I'm hypo because I can't be doing with reminding myself that it's running behind, and all I want is the closest I can get to a' right now' bg. I don't need the additional potential panic caused by the Libre not keeping up, so like @Alison54321 I rely only on my meter to deal with a hypo. Usually by the time Libre's caught up I'm well back into the right numbers.

Hehe, only problem I got is I am the only one who likes it.....So will be looking to do the smallest stollen cake ever :hilarious:

Lid/Aldi sell both Stollen bites and little mini loaves. When I lived in Germany they were always on the bring home at Crimbo list. so wasn't surprised when I noticed them over here too.

My mother used to cut thin slices of stollen, soak them in brandy, or rum, them use the slices in an absolutelyneverinthislifetime LC trifle.

Yeah I have seen them in Lidl/Aldi. BUT the challenge is to make my own.
@helensaramay does it keep for long? Don't know why I asked that as I dont think it will last that long anyway lol
