I have been signed off work after being carted into hospital in the summer when a pre-op assessment showed up some heart abnormalities. They thought I was having a heart attack (I felt pretty normal to be honest). 3 days later the hospital release me from the cardic care unit with a list of appointments to attend for scans etc.

As part of my claim for Employment Support Allowance I visited a nurse yesterday to get my condition assessed. She was very sympathetic and gave some sound advice. One thing she said interested me: according to her if your body is out of kilter (which it will be with my vital signs, apparently) it will put your blood sugars up. Do any of the lovely readers of this forum have a similar condition? I would be very grateful to swap notes.

Fortunately my condition is very treatable, but I am just having to sit in the queue until the cardiomyopathy clinic send me an appointment. Getting a little impatient because I love being about and about doing stuff.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry I have no answers for you but this comment will bump up your thread.

As to getting out and about, I suggest moderate activity would be OK e.g walking the dog each day. Even after having a cardiac event people are usually told not to restrict their activity.
Hope your wait in line for the cardiac clinic isn't too long, the waiting can be stressful.

@Providence 62 Cardiomyopathy can be a very serious condition. You should be guided only by an experienced health professional, a heart specialist or cardiomyopathy Clinical Nurse Specialist. Anything approaching vigorous activity is strongly ill advised. With care, and medicines, and graded activities, you will return to better health.

I'm so sorry your 'team' are seemingly slow, I do wish they would get a move on. Best wishes.

Hello @Guzzler

Thanks for the bump. You are right, the waiting is a bit stressful, but at least I am in the system and will get seen in the end. It's the inactivity that is chafing a bit. I don't have a dog, but the cat keeps me busy playing football with a ping pong ball in the house.

Regards,

P

Hello @Struma

Thanks for your reply. I am being extremely careful. I was given good advice by the hospital on my discharge. All the puffing and panting, sweating and aches which I have had for years and put down to being 'lazy' or too heavy now have an explanation. No worries about me getting anywhere near vigorous in my activity, it really isn't possible. I did, however, ring my GP today to find out if there is anything I can do to find out when my appointment is likely to be. I have the telephone number for the consultant's secretary now and will ring in the morning to see what's happening.

Thanks again for your sound advice and recognition that this condition is a bit of a pain in the backside!

Regards

Great name for a cat! Mine is a rescue cat, so was named when he arrived with us. He is called Monty. Think he was a nurse in a previous life as he always seems to sense when I am not feeling that great.
