A couple of days ago the good ol' Guardian published a piece on world-wide dietary risk factors.

Apparently, the highest risk is caused by diets high in sodium and, just a tad behind, are diets low in whole-grains (WHAT???)

Still, at least the usual pariah fats appear way down the list.Guardianjpg(1).jpg

Wow! Any idea where the graphic originates?

Global Burden of Disease Study.
Really tricky to unpick associational studies if we assume this is where the headlines came from?
Is it the salt or the fact that salty foods tend to be those consumed i highly processed foods in which case surely the vegetable oils play a part? Or perhaps they just had pre conceived ideas about the areas to look at.

I did not want to download any more info onto my old tablet so I thought of looking for a couple of example studies... then I thought better of it. This is epidemiological and will no doubt be comprised of some excellent studies but trying to find those might be a trawl too far.
Guardian cherry picking? Members will have to advise me on that, I havn't bought a newspaper in over 30 years.

So high blood pressure, due to the possibility of Marmite being banned for being too salty means I can sue the Grauniad?
