A few highs in the first few weeks of pregnancy

Hello,

I’ve just found I’m pregnant! So excited but really, really worried too.

I’m type 2 and usually have really good control of my sugars. On waking they are between 4.5 and 5.5 and two hours after eating are 7.5 or under.

I’ve had three highs since getting pregnant. Two 8s and one 11 after eating.

I am terrified that I’ve harmed our baby. Has anyone been in a similar position with any reassuring words?

Can three highs do lots of damage or is it usually sustained highs that I should worry about.

Thanks so much

Wouldn’t worry too much I’m 37+3 weeks type 1 and this is my first pregnancy with high sugars they were pretty good until about28- 30 weeks or so and have been high mostly all day baby is measuring bigger but apart from that all seems ok so far touch wood I’m having him on Thursday will see what his weight is then but it’s consecutive highs that are worse xx

Hi can I ask. My levels haven’t been the best since conception. I would say I’m about 4 weeks. What do they class as high as in would affect baby spine skull etc? I’m
Worried.

Iv always had low sugars which is better for the baby just not for you with risks of falling etc I was told by a specialist in London .... and my baby’s spine looks brill apparently which indicates great control (this was at 24 weeks )
Iv had 2 mc before having my youngest and I think as I had awful blood sugars in months leading up to pregnancy this lead to mc ..... but the occasional high in the day (not every reading ) and corrected within 2 hours to a normal level isn’t as worrying it’s the best u can do x anything over 9 my team count as too high but 4-8 is ideal I definitely did have early highs as well but as I said your pre pregnancy hba1 counts a lot here to baby’s health at conception I had great control leading up to preg this time it was 29 my hba1
Are u taking high dose folic acid and aspirin ?
Have u contacted your team ? X

I’ve just read in my diabetes in pregnancy book that the odd high won’t do any harm, but highs over a longer period will. Hopefully yours aren’t being too naughty x

I think prolonged sugars over 7.5 aren’t too good but everyone is different. My book says the odd high won’t cause any damage x

Sorry only just seen this. So I have an appt on Tuesday. They have given me levels to aim for before eating, 1 hour after etc. Fasting is 4.5-5. I always feel low at 4-4.5 so this just isn’t happening. I’m also injecting much more to bring my levels down then I’m going hypo then I treat the hypo and go back up again. Your HAB1c is 29? That’s amazing. I think mine has defo gone up from 48 6 months ago. Do you eat low carb?
