Hi All,

Firstly I apologise if this is in the wrong forum but I posted for the first time late last year and got some great advice.

I was really struggling with my blood glucose levels and was being 'threatened' with insulin.

So after a few weeks of drastically reducing my carbs I was get some great results.

Fast forward to now, for the last two weeks or so I've have varying levels of pain and soreness in my abdomen that can get quite sore at certain points.

I stopped eating much of anything for a couple of days and it hasn't helped.

A week ago, I saw my GP who put me on lansoprazole, I've taken a week's worth and things are no better. So I have stopped taking it.

I've posted this in the low carb forum for this reason. Today in an effort to get me eating, my wife made me my favourite low carb breakfast. Scrambled eggs (cooked in a bit of butter) and 3 slices of bacon.

I ate it all but within 1/2 an hour the pain got alot worse and I started experiencing what I can only describe as pain spasms in the top right area of my abdomen and this lasted for about 3 hours.

Am I possibly suffering from the higher fat content in my diet?

I am very lethargic and suffering poorly as any man would!

I should add that I was coming to the end of being treated for a foot ulcer on my left foot and for unknown reasons my right foot swelled a lot a week ago and the diabetes centre put me on Flucoxocillin for the 4th time in twelve months.

Can anyone relate or give me some clues please?

Thank you.

We can't diagnose you on the forum. It's clearly time to go back to your GP ASAP and tell them that the lansoprazole didn't work and his diagnosis of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) or an ulcer was either incorrect or was not responding to the lansoprazole. If your current GP isn't able to help you, ask for a referal to a specialist or find another GP.

No trying to diagnose you but I can tell you of my similar experience.

I was given a diagnosis of reflux / GERD for 4 years despite similar meds doing nothing and a&e admissions for similar pain. Eventually I asked about gallstones. A quick scan later this was confirmed and eventually took it out. This was all pre diabetes diagnosis and low carbing for me.

They may well blame lchf for gallstones. The high fat may well aggravate existing stones but didn’t cause them.

The gallbladder stores bile. If you eat very little fat it kind of sits idle and turns to sludge then stones instead of regularly flushing through . When you later eat fat the gallbladder tries to squeeze some sludge out and the stones get moved and squished and it can really really hurt.

Depending on size and quantity there are meds that very very slowly dissolve them. They are rarely used by the nhs as the drs told me the stones just come back. I was talked into removal of the gallbladdder as a result. I no longer have pain and can eat fats (having built up a tolerance slowly). If I knew then what I do now I’d have fought harder for that option as my diet has changed so much I don’t believe they would come back.

Could be a food intolerance, I get exactly the same symptom if I eat banana or any other food item with latex in it .

I also get the same pain with yogurt .

Thanks everyone, I'll get back into the docs.
I wasn't looking for a diagnosis as such, I am just uncomfortable and frustrated.

Thanks again

There is a theme of having Gall bladders removed in my family. I'll mention it to the GP.

Thank you

I'm Type 2, sorry. I'm using the mobile app. Once I'm on my PC again I'll update my profile.
