@Antje77 Congrats on your forthcoming Auntship.

One good bit of news I've had is the birth of my new great niece, Ruby on the 6th of April in New York,
Though nephew and his family live in Brooklyn and on the news this morning they were saying there is a bit of an outbreak of measles going on there so hope they are OK.

Congratulations on the birth of Ruby, I hope mum & baby are doing well.
I have read about the measles epidemic in New York, apparently due to the reluctance of the Jewish community to vaccinate their children because they believe the scare stories. I had measles when I was 5 and I remember not being able to tolerate light, I was off school for weeks.

Anti-vax has also spread to the canine world. People advocating no boosters after the initial puppy vax. You can have your dog tested for immunity to certain of the diseases vaccinated for and that is fair enough, but so many owners don't do this. They simply believe they are not necessary at all. It makes me so cross.

Here the only vaccination required by law is the rabies vaccination for dogs and cats. Horses, too, I think. The other vaccinations are not required by law but are strongly recommended by most vets.

Rabies is uncommon in these islands, fortunately.

Some people were quite anxious when the go ahead was given to build the Channel Tunnel, they feared hoards of rabid rats flooding in from France. Obviously this did not happen.

As we don't have rabies in the UK, the vacs are not compulsory unless the dog needs a passport to travel abroad. This may also apply to vacs for other diseases.

The common canine disease vacs are not a legal requirement. However, it is part of the licensing rules for boarding establishments - kennels, day care and so on, to insist on vaccinated dogs only. Puppies have a series of vacs up to around 12 weeks old, then annual boosters. It is these boosters that people are ignoring without first giving the dog the immunity test that is available.

What do you call such people ? half anti-vaxxers??

So, it is now Oct 31 2019. (I thought I'd best put the year, just to be absolutely clear :)).

Been out for a spontaneous meal tonight as Sarah (DD) is out with her mates. Went to our local Italian, Luigis. Alan had a naughty pizza and I had lamb chops with garlic spinach, we shared a bottle of red and finished with an amaretto coffee each
