Has anyone been prescribed Freestyle Libre since 1 April in accordance to NHS new policy? My GP seems to think nothing changed and that they cannot prescribe it. Any news on that?

I haven't asked my consultant, I assume they are still following NICE guidelines and it depends on your consultant if he or she is willing to prescribe it based on those guidelines.
I'll let you know about the insulin pump though if you give me a few months :hilarious:

It depends where in the country you are. Trust me, unfortunately the post code lottery has not ended yet in all parts of England. It currently depends on where you are as to whether your CCG has adopted the NHS England criteria that came into effect on 1 April.

Where do you live generally, I can then check the status of that CCG for you.

@Manondeslauriers have you asked your diabetes team?
In my CCG, GPs are not able to prescribe Libre. They can only be prescribed by a diabetes consultant ... not a GP and not a DSN.
I know this because I have requested one, been told I need proof that I test more than 8 test a day, immediately provided this evidence (I didn't need to do extra testing, it is what I need to do) and, two weeks later, I am waiting for the consultant to respond.

My diabetic nurse said I was a prime candidate got my hopes up only to be phoned by the GP to be told the CCG are not approving in my area yet!

So, been T2 for 4-years. On Metformin and left to my own devices. Recently had issue with kidney stone and blood sugars high at 14... Yesterday, given a freestyle Libra, set of pins and strips by my Diabetic Nurse specialist at my doctors... didnt even ask, or expect it.. just need to get my levels down now. pins and strips on repeat prescription too. Guess I'm lucky? Postcode lottery: LN6

I have posted on another thread that my consultant replied to my email telling me i have been funded. I was promised already early last year but my CCG (Islington) wouldn't give green light. Nearby boroughs like Hackney or Westminster had the funding in place since last year.
I was pestering the DSN and consultant a lot, i had to share my Libre data via Diasend with the hospital. Dr Rosenthal finally said the most convincing reason for her to prescribe it is my "excellent control"since using the Libre.

Good luck!

So, they should be available to all, especially if the PM has one
How does this logic work?
Do you know whether the PM funds the Libre herself?

I am not saying it should not be available to all who are able to benefit from it but
1. that is not all people with diabetes as some people will not understand the trends (if they notice them) or what to do about them.
2. just because a senior politician who does a very stressful job and is in the public eye has one (and we don't know who funds it), everyone else should. I would never say everyone should have brown leather trousers because she has a pair.

Yes. I was offered a clinic appointment on 1st April, where I was given a letter for my GP to prescribe it for me. So after 2 years of self-funding, I'm getting it on the NHS. Only thing is, I'm moving to a Medtronic pump soon and would like to try the sensors... Fat chance! :) This is in the south west.

I have just been prescribed one I had a diabetic appointment In March and the guidelines have changed now got my hospital appointment on 28th May to start my trial.

I test my blood sugars in excess of 15 times a day, I think as long as you are testing 15 times a day you'll be fine.

I haven't even bothered to try for the Libre. I know that I'm too well controlled for my GP to even offer.

I self funded when it first came out and was happy with it until I started having unpleasant skin reactions. I now self fund the Dexcom G6 at £40 a week. Luckily I can budget for this and feel it's a better way to spend my money than other things I can mention.

I am grateful that my prescriptions are funded by the NHS, but wonder how many people currently have a Libre that could easily afford to pay for it themselves. While not wanting to start a whole debate on means testing, I see similar with bus passes for pensioner friends able to pay fares without hardship having one because it's allowed and never using it.
