Type 1 Do eye injections Hurt?

Hi everyone I’m new to the forum nice to meet you all. I have been diabetic for seventeen years and over time and poorly controlled diabetes unfortunately my eyes have deteriorated and I now have diabetic retinopathy. I have been told by my eye doctor recently that over the course of the next year I’m going to need laser treatment and injections in my eyes. Has anyone else had to have the injections before and do they hurt is there anything to worry about?

I've had anti-VGEF jabs for macular edema.
They put anesthetic drops in the eye first. I didn't feel a thing.
The prep is a bit of a faff, but the jab is over in the click of the fingers.
 
Hey there jaylee thank you for replying that’s good news you don’t feel it I watched a video after I received the news which I probably shouldn’t of done because it just made me worry more good to hear first hand though from someone who has had it. Thanks jaylee

I had an injection a long time ago in relation to a serious non diabetic eye issue, and as @Jaylee has said, my eye was also anaesthetized first so it didn't hurt at all. For me it was the absolute fearful anticipation of having it done that was by far the worst part - but then I was - and still am - just a daft old biddy!

And from me too: best wishes for successful treatment - our eyes are very precious things.

I agree. The unknown is the worst part.. I found HCP crew compassionate, professional & undderstanding.
It's not a nice prospect in therory...
The worst part for me. Was the assistant invading my "personal space," holding my hand the first couple of sessions..
Bless her, but not my style.
 
No it doesn’t hurt but it’s uncomfortable and can be a distressing experience if you don’t stay calm. It can be mildly painful up to three days afterwards. Mostly just a sore point at the injection site when you roll the eye around in its socket, but also what feels like bruising of the eye. That’s my experience anyway. Overall the expectation is worse than the event, but I’ll close by saying I’d rather not have it than have it.

Hi Jim,

Did your team give you some chloramphenicol eye drops to take 3x for 3 days afterward?
I certainly had no discomfort ensuing the procedure.

Nope, no drops after the event. I found the peak was about three days after each injection. By this time there would be a sharp spot and a bruised eyeball. Nothing too serious, but uncomfortable. Quickly faded after four days.

Interesting,
I have to admit, I didn't always quite remember to put the drops in on cue. (Mainly the midday applications when busy.)
But morning & before bed... Fine every time.
