So went to pub with friends this afternoon.
Had tried to do no carb today to reset after this week and probably shouldn’t as I was out. So felt bit off and got my kit out to test.
Now I try to do it discreet anyway and just do it in my lap.
My friend says
‘Oh are you going to stock that needle in your finger’
So I reply yes.

‘Oh I hate needles and things like that’

I just didn’t reply because quite frankly the only words I could thing of were well don’t ****** look then so i stayed quiet.

So my friend promptly lifts up the menu and covers her face.

I have been diagnosed for 9 months or thereabouts and this is the first reaction I have had.

Not once has she said anything before.

Although she is a weird one. You will repeat what the words she used the week before but she will then say the opposite this week. Very contrary. I say friend but to be honest I am quite wary of her. As I said she bitches about people and the one thing I’ve learnt is that means she does that about me as well. But she is in a group of friends so if I see them she is there.

I no longer meet her separately like I used to.

So I’m just a little surprised that she said this.

And I’m a bit disappointed.

But in my rebelliousness I continued and took my sweet time

Hi Cana, I would say don't take it too personally at this stage especially as she sounds like she is overly dramatic and probably would have had a similar reaction to anything. You clearly know what she is like so yes, she can do one! Never be made to feel ashamed about having to do something that is keeping you healthy, sure it's best not to finger prick whilst cartwheeling down the middle of the dining table BUT you were being discreet and she was being curious at best and nosy at worst. Next time don't stay quiet if someone comments, just be matter of fact...unless of course they are out and out stupid in which case shout 'Don't bleep, bleep look then'! I can guarantee it will happen again but only YOU can make yourself feel guilty or embarrassed about it. x

Good for you! She was making a drama over nothing. Next time offer to test her!

Yea I’ll probably just test more when I’m with her now just to make her more uncomfortable

It just left a nasty taste in my mouth which stayed all night but after good sleep I’m good now.

To be fair while thing was a nightmare.

I had ordered burger and chips, with the aim of eating few chips for the carbs and just the burger. Hence why I had gone no carbs rest of day.

It came and the burger was pink in the middle. I don’t mind a hint of pink but it just wasn’t nice, and the middle wasn’t as hot as the outside and I really can’t be doing with a bad stomach.

At the same time this blotchy friend was talking about this obnoxious couple at restaurant night before where they had been rude and demanding and sending food back and asking for swaps etc.

She was fine with me but I sent mine back. They agreed to make burger well done but it came back pink again and I just didn’t want to be seen to be making a fuss so I just ate round it. But I ended up having to eat more of the chips to fill me up so then I ended up high and with a blinding headache. I should have sent it back again and asked for something else but it was her effect. And I shouldn’t have allowed her to affect me like that. But we live and learn.

Today I think I’m just going to lock the doors and throw away the key. And stay at home nice and safe away from people

That way I don’t have to be diabetic or worry about other people.

I’m going sit down, drink tea, hot chocolate and knit/crochet!!

Some people just enjoy being offended. I wouldn’t worry about it. You godda do what you godda do.

Hi, some people just like to offend as they just have to 'say something' as the end of the day you are just pricking your finger, no big drama in that and it's not like you are performing a surgical operation:rolleyes: !!

Those Who Mind Don’t Matter, and Those Who Matter, Don’t Mind.

Lol!! I was thinking of asking Dr for a bigger needle just so I could really prick my finger (although not sure I’m that brave given its my finger).

I think I’ll just test even more when she is around! Just to be evil

Lol good for you :)

My father, an insulin dependent type II, fainted on occasion if I even mentioned the word needle. A strange reaction for someone who would inject twice a day (he refused to inject more than twice). His apprehension when injecting meant it would take about 45 minutes. I also have a friend who fainted the first time he tried to donate blood.

It's your choice if you want to make her feel uncomfortable, but make sure she has something soft to fall on when she faints. We might find it totally weird that anyone can react that way to needles, I had to see it to believe it.

Oh I appreciate that. But in the last nine months she hasn’t uttered a word. If I don’t like something I will just look the other way but understand that the person needs to do something.
It’s not fir me to dictate what they can or can’t do.

But if it is that bad, why not mention it in the last 9 months!! The first time I saw her after diagnosis I tested loads of times and she was looking and everything was fine
