The high readings are worrying and I'm not sure wether to trust the libre or carry on finger pricking .
Any idea which is more accurate ?
Hi, jenni, there's a few ways of dealing with this.
The bg test will always be the more accurate one, so be guided by that.
Libre is good, but it can be cranky. If you were to test, say, 8 times a day over the course of two days at the beginning of a sensor and it consistently came out x higher than strips at different times of the day, it's possible to say, yep, this one runs about 1.5 or whatever higher than blood, so you can then scan and just deduct 1.5 off the reading. A lot of mine tended to run about 1 below blood and I just got used to adding 1, but always tested when in doubt.
If it's throwing wild fliers, eg, 2 to 3 out when stable, Abbott will usually replace those.
Another way is to buy a MiaoMiao transmitter for about £160 and run it to the android app xDrip+. The transmitter gets stuck on top of the sensor, reads it every 5 mins and sends the reading to your phone so you get full on cgm with hypo alerts and a few other things. You can wait till your bg is stable, then do a bg test, input that reading into xdrip to tell it what bg actually is, it'll then be able to make a whole lot more sense of future readings.
I've had a few sensors over the last few years (am on my 80th now, yikes!) which I would have sent back to Abbott due to being sketchy, but the MM/xdrip rig has really tightened them up.
