Hey!! So I'm new to this, iiv been diabetic for bout 27 odd years, and have been using the novopen3 penmate which has been discontinued my devices are getting old now amd I dropped one tonight an it just popped open so now I'm unable to use this, I still have 1 device I can use but the spring on that is getting a bit stiff and think it won't b long til it's on its last legs 2, my problem is I have THE biggest needle phobia and the novopen 3 is the only device I feel comfortable using, IV tried to use the pens with the needle covers but I juat can't push the needle in myself where a she penmate has a button and a spring that puts the needle in for you. IV read a few posts on here about some people still having them but they have been quite old posts, and just looking for any help in sourcing one,. An also if anyone have any alternative options or knows of any other device that can auto inject? Or even what the omnipod is like IV heard good and bad things about it and I'm not sure if that would be better for me due to the needle phobia I have when I know this lasts for 3 days, HELP please. ‍♀️

Hey there, you can't have it covered since it's discontinued but you can still buy one at Amazon.co.uk. I can't post the link cause my account is too new but just type "Novopen 3" and it's the £36.84 one. Hope that helps!

They don't have the Penmate accessory though, I'm not sure if you've broken everything or just the pen. Still, for this one you should ask your doc, mine has lots of it so maybe you'll be lucky too.

Hey, thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my message, but I think your thinking of the wrong pen, the one I'm talking about is blue with a yellow button on it that u pull back and once you press the yellow button the pen springs down and pushes the needle in for you. I can't post a pic either cos I'm new also. ‍♀️ it's called the novopen3 penmate I think.

Hello, have you tried asking your team if they have anything similar? Have you looked into tickleflex? or found ways to combat needle phobia? Omnipod is a tubeless insulin pump, you still need to use a device to pierce your skin to stick the pod on.

Hi thanks so much for that for that, yeah I have had this discussion with my diabetic specialist and he said of the top his head there is nothing similar to the pen I am using and that as it was discontinued and IV had it that long he said I should think about other options and he would also do some research to see if there was anything to suit me better, I know about the omnipod and the thing with that is once it's in that's it for 3 days it's not constant injections every time I eat or have high bloods ‍. X

I can't comment on how great your CCG is on approving funding for those with needle phobia for an insulin pump. All pumps are about the same - 2 to 3 days on the body and a set change after that. Omnipod is one of the more expensive pumps because it is tubeless. Also you can have high blood readings with a pump too, sometimes due to a kink. When an insulin pump fails and you have to send it off and wait for a new one to arrive, you'll need to revert to pens again. (Also in some cases when you're unwell and the pump isn't doing it's job properly) So it's not just "3 days and that's it". You'll have to judge whether an insulin pump will benefit you as a whole and not just needle phobia. That would mean another chat with your team again to see based on NHS criteria for one. I know there are a few self injector devices out on the market; like https://www.spirit-health.co.uk/spirit-healthcare/products-for-diabetics/insujet But I don't know how easily accessible they are.

Have you had a look or asked your team about an I-port? I think its similar to the Libre in that a little filament/cannula is inserted under the skin and you then put the needle in that to inject your insulin so you aren't actually inserting the needle into your skin, I think each port has a life span of 3 days so much like pumps I believe
