Update - blood tests & new normal/threshold

I got the results of my secondary blood tests which I requested to ensure I was purely just Type 2 and not LADA, MODY or pancreatic problems. All tests came back normal, including the insulin levels my body is creating (it's not creating more, not creating less), so absolutely now I know I am dealing primarily with insulin resistance.

I have stayed low carb for about 7 weeks now, and started tracking my blood sugar levels the whole time. My A1C was 9.8 and the app I'm using to track is giving me a current estimated average of 6.8 though that includes the very high levels I was at a few weeks ago - I am now waking up to a fasting level usually around ~130 mg/DL and so long as I maintain my current diet and add in basic forms of exercise, I'm hovering in the ~120 mg/DL range. This seems to be a resistance point right now. It gets thrown out of whack as well when my meal plan gets off track which so far has been just limited to office party and group lunch with coworkers. It is just very tough to avoid carbs when you are not the one making the meals! Carbs and sugars are hidden in so many things - sauces, so-called "low carb" menu items, all hogwash.

So now my battle plan will shift to super-sizing efforts related to increasing insulin resistance. Increasing exercise is the main one, improving my sleep cycles as well. I also will be getting imaging in my abdominal area as I have a mild pressure feeling under my right ribs which comes & goes but is most prevalent when I eat a larger meal than normal or have not eaten for a while (while awake) by 4-5 hours. Endocrinologist said that seems like the gallbladder area so is having me get imaging to see what's going on there.

Until I get my next A1C I don't know what my real average is but based on my regular self-checks it seems like I can get into the 5.5-5.8 range by February, maybe better if I do a good job increasing exercise effort. I can only guess for now.

Are you recording your readings on the mySugr app? It is not an exact match to the HbA1C, but pretty close after 3 months. Gave me a number of 37 when the lab test was 35 (UK). At the very least, it shows whether you are trending up or down. It gives you an estimated HbA1c at around 6 days, depending on how many times a day you test. I found it highly motivating when I first started. Free version, premium lets you export. Turn off annoying sounds in settings.

Yes. I know it's not likely accurate but close enough for me to see my progress. It adds to the challenge which keeps me motivated. The sounds don't bother me - except when I'm testing at work and forget, I think co-workers think I'm playing a game on my phone. You can export in the free version, just choose CSV format, and then you can lose the CSV in Excel and create your own charts.

I used to be loose with the input but am now trying to be more thorough so I can track my progress in more detail, and eventually when I get a ketone blood tester I will add that data.
