Chocolate and Rice cakes

Hi all,

I'm having issues with my sleeping at the mo and at night / early hours I get peckish. I took my last bloods at 'bed time' last night and they were 7.2, I had chilli and cauli rice for tea. Before 'bed time' I also took my lantus.

Last night I gave in and ate a full dark chocolate bar and 4 rice cakes. around 3 hours later I felt guilty and checked my bloods to find they were 7.3.

I'm wondering why it hardly moved? The last short acting insulin was taken maybe 6 hours before this before my tea.

It's self me confused as the same thing happened about 5 days ago (I know I need to get control) during the night I ate a bag of Bournville dark choc buttons, a few hours after this I checked and my blood was 4.9!! Checked again twice one was 5.4 other 5.8 so I stuck with the middle 5.4

Is this normal,?

Please no judging on stop eating chocolate, before I was diagnosed I hardly ever ate any chocolate or cake or sweets but now I find myself craving them probably because I know I shouldn't have them.

Personally, I would eat the chocolate and ditch the rice cakes! Yoou might be better off, grabbing a chunk of cheese and a few walnuts and/or olives.

You may be spiking them what is left of your insulin production is overreacting?
I used to snack on cheese until I got used to low carb, kept a bag of the 20g portions at the front of the fridge so it was the first thing I saw!

@MancboyChris I often have a pack of 6 mini plain chocolate covered rice cakes from Hallio and they do not increase my BS too much so this may well be the case with you. We are all individuals so react to carbs differently but as you test foods you will soon learn what you can or shouldn’t eat or eat in moderation.
