@gennepher so sorry about Popeye’s abscess and the worry. It sounds lke you are doing the right stuff. I have heard about manuka honey being used for healing. I imagine it needs to be completely drained first. Hope you can find something about it online. Thinkng of you both and crossing everything for you
The paintings are beautiful, the purple hues and the use of some white really draws me in.

I found online advice that suggests you apply it to the wounds...
I had a scout round gennepher on honey for wounds it has amazing properties...on reflection it might have been the confrontation in 'catgate' that has caused this infection...with mine I did check them over when I knew they'd been involved in a fight but bite marks are so small & tend to be buried in the really furry hocks of cats...I think the honey is worth a try in the interim?

He is a very thick furred cat. I did examine every inch of him after ‘catgate’, and checked for a few days after, but that would have been impossible to find in his thick fur.
He is now in the window on a fur blanket in the sun. First he grumbled because I moved him from his comfy chair, but he is a sun lover. His eyes look so much better now, normal pupils and a beautiful green. He has gone to sleep with the warm sun on him.
I will probably try the honey later. Leave him in peace for the moment.

Thank you @HarryBeau

Thank you @PenguinMum

I use Manuka honey for myself which is why I have it for first aid etc.

Yup, the wound needs to be drained more first, I agree with that.

Thanks for liking the paintings. I appreciate that.

6.2 this morning. That would be eating late And having cheesecake.
@gennepher Poor Popeye. And you, worrying about him . Good luck with getting in first at the vets. May the parking fairy guide you. Hope they fix your implant too.

Hope your park run went well yesterday. The big fry up sounded a really good idea after a 5I walk

Sadly it was cancelled due to World Pasty Championships taking place there! I went home and had a cheese omelette.
Next week I’ll go Lanhydrock , a NT place nearby with lovely grounds. It’s a tough one for runners as the first half is all downhill then the home stretch is all uphill. I’ll be walking though so it shouldn’t be too horrendous and I know dogs are allowed on that one so Dennis will enjoy an early Saturday outing too.

Yes good idea...if you can tempt him with something he can't resist hopefully he is eating.
He refused all food earlier in the kitchen and I couldn't tempt him.
Then he wanted to go outside. He is a wobbly drunken looking cat on three legs at the moment. So I said No. But I gave in, he looked so depressed. It is sunny (very windy) today, and he has a routine on a sunny day like this outside. About 15 minutes on his cushion on the swing sunbathing, then his grey garden chair (I had to lift him up for another 15 minutes sunbathing). Then he wanted me to open the potting shed. So I did. I have a bag of dried catfood in a tin in there, and he wanted that. So I am very glad I opened the potting shed now @HarryBeau and @PenguinMum because he has now eaten a breakfast!
And he is also now sunbathing in the potting shed window. I've made a coffee and joined him in the potting shed which feels like a creaky pirate ship at sea in this wind.
I have a supply of fiction and non fiction books in here, and a lime green duck down jacket which lives in the potting shed.

My Sunday isn't quite going as planned...but I am happy with it.

I don't mind being someone's slave for the day...I am grateful he seems on the mend.

Here he is...

What a shame it was cancelled. It sounds like Dennis will really enjoy the park run at Lanhydrock next week.

Great news he's eating gennepher that's has been my main worry when my lot were unwell...as for accommodating their needs we do it without question...sitting outside with him will likely benefit both of you...I've just sat here for over half an hour with the door open despite the cold while the beasts were outside...Lola hunted a twig which she brought home...Charlie did too but couldn't get it over the step we waited & he tried but in the end he gave up bless him...keep us updated with Popeye's progress when you can.

I don't dare buy any almond butter as I suspect I would love it far too much. I dont buy peanut butter for that reason plus too many carbs for the amount I know I would eat. Just finished the last of the tub of thick cream - thinking about trying to do without for a few days to see how that goes. It might be an interesting experiment to see if cream adversely affects my bloods. But then it might be best if I don't find that out otherwise I see a guilt trip coming.

Got a few bars of Lidl 95% chocolate in the cupboard but to be honest I can take or leave chocolate I say that to the person who bought how many? I find chocolate doesn't offer the same satisfaction as cream or nuts. Even before Dx I used to keep boxes of chocolates for months on end before opening or giving away. Mind you, used to like to keep a bar of Bournville in the house as I used to make a mean Gateau le Progress, which actually now I think of it should easily convert to low carb. Its layers of almond macaroon, layered with chocolate crème pat, the crème pat is made with unsalted butter, eggs, dark chocolate and sugar, so the only substitute would be to replace the sugar.
I had a problem with the Almond butter and for about a year I didn't dare buy it.
Have got it under control now - most of the time.

I do find the 100% chocolate very moreish (especially when spread with almond butter) but luckily I am fine with between 10 and 20 grams a day. Which is probably why my mountain of Montezuma 's 100% isn't going down very fast.

Yesterday I got an email from Montezuma to say they are now doing 100% with Mint. I used to absolutely love Mint chocolate so am going to order some today. Hopefully there is room in my cupboard for even more chocolate.

It would be an interesting experiment to see if the thick cream affects your BS. It's strange that up to almost 150ml doesn't for me but over that it has a significant impact. It doesn't really make sense.

Your Gateau le Progress sounds as though it would still be delicious when converted to low carb

Good to know he has eaten Gennepher. If he is following his routine that is also encouraging. I hope you can get into the vet promptly and he can get a shot of antibiotic and painkiller but you are doing everything you can meanwhile. Will check with you later.

Up on and off all night.
I wasn't happy about Popeye.
Yesterday he appeared fine, did his usual stuff, even leaped on one go from the ground to his high sitting place, to sit in the sun yesterday morning. Then we had the wildest storm of rain and horrendous wind in the afternoon/evening. It really frightened me (I haven't checked outside yet this morning). And so I assumed Popeye huddling under my fleece blanket was suffering from the storm. It was like a giant with an enormous cricket bat was hitting the sides of my bungalow. I definitely felt like the little piggy in the straw house.

Popeye then jumped off no problem from the couch and jumped up on my bed, for the night, no problem. But I wasn't happy with him. Again, nothing I could put my finger on. I had a bit of a sleep, woke up and checked on him, but he didn't want me touching his back right leg. I could see nothing. I couldn't sleep, began a painting in the middle of the night, came back to him. He wouldn't let me touch him, but I couldn't see anything obvious. Then he tried to get up, he couldn't. I thought, you are not dying on me now. You are going to make your 28th birthday in May.

Ended up wrapping him tightly in a towel, he wouldn't let me examine him. Finally I found a tiny bit of fur that had matted near the skin. Got a comb, and gently teasing it out, Popeye protesting very loudly. It was an abscess. And it chose that moment to burst. So hot compresses, poor Popeye protesting. I found two teeth marks.

I have done a second lot of hot compresses just now a few hours later. I will do a couple more today. I will leave him in peace for the moment. Then vet tomorrow, but I have cochlear appointment too tomorrow. I need to be camped outside the vet before it opens so I will be the first, then on to my cochlear appointment.

I have no idea when this happened. He has been going out in the day just for a short while each time, but mostly has chosen to stay in besides me. That couldn't be left over from the cat flap incident, where he was attacked, could it? That is a bit too long ago, isn't it?

So I will be keeping a close eye on him today.

Here is my painting/s for this morning.

Top one is in the A5 sized sketch book.
Bottom one is on the C6 sized index card.
Watercolours. Japanese calligraphy pen. And I mixed some process white with the water colours to create that thicker paint to flick on the trees.

I am a bit in pieces at the moment, tried to boil the kettle with no water in, then I am not hungry, I can't eat while Popeye is like this. Although I do think he will be fine now. His eyes were just black before in the night even with the light on, the pupils completely open, I suppose that was the pain. And an animal cannot tell you. But now his eyes look normal, the black pupils are normal size.

He will be fine now. I am going to check on him. I will leave him on his chair with fleeces on while the abscess is draining. Then hopefully later I can bring him back to where he wants to sit.

I am going to check on him.
Take care.
Hugs if you need them.
So sorry that Popeye has been in pain. It sounds as though the hot compresses are really working. Hope you get the first appointment at the vet tomorrow.

I loved both your paintings today.

You say honey? I have honey...Manuka honey...are you saying the supervet used it on the wound or in the mouth. I googled that but I couldn’t find out.
Popeye is looking better than he was.

UPDATE: I found online advice that suggests you apply it to the wounds..
Yes @HarryBeau is absolutely right about the honey - especially Manuka honey.
