Hi I’m new here and I’m at my wits end!!

my names Mark and I have been type 2 for 10 years I currently am taking the following medication:
4 Metformin
1 aspirin
1 ramipril
1 simvatatin
For the last 6 weeks my body has been covered in a itchy blotchy Hives type rash,I’ve been to he Drs 4 times and have had steroid tablets and a multitude of antihistamines but still no relief

I want to ask has anyone else ever suffered this and is it diabetic linked and how did you recover from it,its driving me mad aswell as looking unsightly
Thanks in advance for help Mark

Welcome to the forum @Robbo1971. Just wondered if it was a side effect of your tablets? I'm very sensitive to the fillers in tablets, so a different brand of the same tablet can bring me out in that kind of rash.
Could it be a virus?
It might be worth trying to get a referral to a dermatologist if it continues. Hope you can get some relief as I know how horrible an itchy rash is.

Hi @Robbo1971 In 2011 I was taking Simvastatin and came out in an all-over rash which put me in hospital for three days, I was seen by a dermatologist who asked me when I first spotted (haha) the rash. It was the fisrt day I was outside in the sun just before Easter. "You are to stop taking statins straight away!" He explained that the rash would take a few days to disappear and to the dismay of future diabetes and transplant consultants, I am listed as allergic. My blood chemistry and pressure remain excellent 9 years later. Statins might have their uses, but they are handed out like sweets I feel. Good luck with ending the dreadful itch and in your future regime.

Hi Robbo - All that itching isn't a lot of fun.

A number of people have reported itching/hives when using Metformin. For some it happens straight away, and for others after a while.

I have a couple of allergies, and I used to get dreadful prickly heat, when going on trips involving extreme temperature changes. I used to find taking an antihistamine helped me a lot - particularly if I started it on the day I left UK, then kept it up for the duration of the trip. Of course, that first bit is no good to you, already having the symptoms.

I do hope you find out what it is.

Have any of your meds changed recently; either a new medication, different brand, or even changing the dosage?
